It’s the year 2000, and the new console Playstation 2 has just been released onto the gaming market. The PS2 is a remarkable device with graphical capabilities not yet seen before. Such games like ‘3D noughts and crosses’ and ‘Hopscotch supreme’ are the highlights among the many launch titles that will grace the Playstation 2. Earlier today a Sony spokesman said, “We are very excited about the PS2. Its capabilities are beyond belief and we are very thrilled about the future of the console. We are particularly enthusiastic about such projects as the first ever 3D platformer ‘Peter Pan in Return to Neverland’ and the futuristic racer ‘Jet Ion Gp’.”
It’s now the year 2001. Things have been going well for Sony and their black box of wonder. The much anticipated ‘Peter Pan’ reached no.1 in the charts only to be knocked off by ‘Jet Ion Gp’, the racer described by gaming critics as, ‘the best racer since ‘Ford Racing’ on the PSOne’. Other highlights include the success of ‘International League Soccer’ the PS2’s best football game to date. Such successes have left one question on gamer’s minds, ‘Can the console be pushed anymore or has the console reached its limits?’ Read this space to find out!

Back to the real world now; thank god. But imagine that was true. ‘Jet Ion Gp’ was number 1!!! ‘Peter Pan’ was good!!! See, I told you it could be worse. Supposing we were all playing this trash on our consoles? Supposing no one ever knew that games could be better than that grainy trash. If it weren’t for our wonderful developer friends we would be left believing ‘International League Soccer’ WAS the best football game that could be produced on our 124bit consoles. But would we really mind? If it wasn’t for the likes of GT3 and Final Fantasy X maybe we would be satisfied with the so-called trash. We wouldn’t know any better and perhaps we wouldn’t want to know that our beloved ‘Army Men 3D’ was actually a load of Tosh McKinley. So maybe a world of ‘Hologram Time Traveller’ and ‘Everdeep’ wouldn’t be so bad. Providing there was no Metal gear Solid 2 of course.

Coooooool!
It works the other way too. Games on PSOne and N64 made the PS2 and GC games look so speacial but after playing on PS2 and GC for a while u just get used to it.
Most mediocre games are only slated because the AAA's are better than them.
Agent Under Fire was a reasonable game but got pasted for being "no Goldeneye".
It's not EA's fault. No one should be expecting them to outclass Rare...
> Hell you have a PS2 and you enjoy it so I guess the answer to you're
> question is yes. :D
lol...oh well should have seen that one coming...
anyways good view on the games industry and i agree if there was no MGS2 or FFX and all there was was army men and everdeep then maybe we think they would be good.
Is it the fact that we now expect too much from games, in the 80's we were happy to be told that the green smidge on the screen was a tree, now we aint happy unless all the leaves move around realistically
