The dictionary version is :
An event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God:
I mentioned in the Science vs Religion debate about a woman who came to our church. She has not been able to walk without sticks for over three years due to a muscle wasting illness. She had various medical treatments none of which had changed anything. She went to a healing mass and two weeks later she was in the bath and suddenly found she could lift her legs up, something she could not do before. She now walks totally unaided and even runs when she wants to.
She believes that it is a miracle. Others will say that the medical treatments had finally kicked in (though she has had no drugs for over a year !). Yet others will say that it was in the mind and she overcame whatever it was herself.
We are generally sceptical by nature because we want to have a logical explanation for everything that happens, unfortunatley many things defy logic.
If you're looking for miracles, you'll see them every day. But only because you're openly willing to believe it's a miracle, and not just the odds being defeated.
Firstly do you think that God can only be seen to exist by performing circus tricks ? Miracles happen everyday all over the world. Because they do not appear on the front page of the sun we do not think that they happen. A miracle does not neccasarily have to be a big event that shakes the world. Healings much as are written about in the new testament are happening today, unfortunately most people are extremely sceptical as there is no scientific basis for a spontaneous healing.
Secondly, there are many who study the bible, especially revelation, that will liken the fulfillment of prophesy as current day miracles, they even go to the extent of saying that you can sometimes read prophesy fullfilment on the front pages of the newspapers.
Faith alone should be enough, but if it isn't then there is more than enough evidence out there..
