What do you think is the biggest turning point in videogames to change how everything is perceived? I think the death of the DC showed how bad things have become when not even great games can save a machine. The PSOne undoubtedly opened up the market to older gamers, making it 'cool' for over 18s to play games. Mind you, with those who grew up with games now reaching their mid to late 20s, it was going to happen sooner or later. Sony saw the gap and exploited it. Playstation made games “Cool,” to the average person. Which is a good thing I think. But, I also think that it made way for a lot of bad, bad, bad games on the market. It’s going the way of pop music. PS1 being the S-Club 7 of the bunch. I mean that it's the most popular choice, but perhaps not the best of the bunch. Or maybe it is!? And Dreamcast being the more established/respected artist, if you will! The PSOne also showed the power of advertising, as despite the fact the N64 had more AAA titles, the PSOne sold a lot more. The death of the DC re-established this idea. However, also when the NES had the rival of the Master System, because both systems weren’t that powerful, both companies were trying to out do each other for your money, bringing us the gamers much more value and choice, its like the old console wars of old, then the SNES and Mega Drive, and now today’s machines GameCube, Xbox, PS2. Its true sometimes, the old saying "the more things change the more they stay the same" is true for consoles - in 5 years time people will be again having the "my console is better than yours" talk. But in the future who knows what type of consoles will be released or called, zcase, esquare, and gspot. I think it was when Nintendo decided not to let Sony make the add on for the SNES, thinking it would become the main media of the console. This was also known as the Playstation. Nintendo could have stopped Sony all together. Imagine if it was just an add on?
