I struggle to see how anyone can enjoy playing certain games like Medal of Honour: Frontline, and Final Fantasy X. Why? Because they're definitely below average. Of course that is just my opinion, and for those of you who don't really like a challege MOH: Frontline is perfect. The ultra-linear levels are plain, textures and lighting are poor, enemies do exactly the same thing everytime you play a level and shooting lights doesn't make them go out... just get a bullet hole in them! Final Fantasy is just as bad. There are quite a few bugs in the game, like walking into walls that aren't there, poor shadows, boring gameplay... but hey, like I said - this is just my opinion - and you're entitled to yours.
But back to the topic at hand.
After speaking to loads of different people over the years on this website, i've come to the conclusion that everyone is entitled to play the games they want to. I mean why shouldn't they? Kids are rude to thier parents swearing at them constantly because they won't buy them Nike trainers instead of the lower priced Reebok or Patrick. Kids actually lose friends because they don't like certain things. If you say you don't like football to the lads at the pub, they'll either disown you or give you one hell of a beating - physically of verbally!
Conforming to what other people say is a good game, or even something that is fun isn't wrong, but not everyone has to do it. Because someone says they're hooked on Fishing games, or PC Strategy games doesn't mean to say they don't apprectiate good games. Because someone like cute Nintendo games doesn't mean to say they're some sort of baby. I myself prefer the adventure games from the likes of Nintendo, EAD and Rareware, and still rate games like Banjo and Conker, Mario 64 and Zelda above the games of today like Jak and Daxter, Spiderman and even GTA3.
If someone tells you that you're wrong for liking a certain game, kindly address the situation by politely informing them that they are, indeed, an idiot! They can't tell you what you don't like... it's your choice.
It seems, that sadly, being cool is now a major factor in which games a person decides to buy. Here's my PS2 collection:
GTA3
GT3
MGS2
XG3
VF4
FFX (Free Promo - Full Version)
MOH: Frontline (Free Promo - Full Version)
Pro Evolution Soccer
The none-Promo ones, I bought (or won) myself because I liked the look and idea of the games. The two promos, that I HAVE to play for work, were recommended to me by other people, and despite being quite excited by the concept of both, was rudely awakened to the average gameplay of both.
The moral of this topic? Play the games you want to play. You can pay up to £300 for a machine and up to £60 for a game, make sure you're spending your money on something you actually you want and know you'll enjoy!
Thanks,
Game
That's why I stopped slating realistic racers.
As boring as I find them, some people OBVIOUSLY like them so let them be.
Still think Codemasters were better off making Dizzy and Micromachines rather than poncy generic rally games...
Gave that man a GAD!
There's no point buying a game to please other people because at the end of the day it's your money that you're using.
When people underrate my games, I do the same back, but in a much harsher way. That shuts them up!
Great post.
:D
