Looks like we'll have to wait for some games then.
From what I read, because the Gamecube is the easier to program for, developers will be able to get the best out of it sooner, where with the PS2 the developers will need to work with development kit a bit longer to get the best from it. As PS2 is out soon, and the Gamecube not for another year, they'll probably be on a level playing field once both are available.
Should be a good contest, with both consoles having great games.
If Nintendo and RARE can carry on with their superb work and Square come and release some games, it looks very likely it will come out on top, however if Sony bring out some really good games, something new and something old it will turn out good.
All the old games from the PS1 should be able to be made on PS2 except maybe Crash Bandicoot, but the rest Resident evil, Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo should be there.
But really no one's in a contest it's whether the consumers will buy their console or not, but the games will sway people across several times before staying put on one console.
