hi, man i seem to be posting a lot of topics asking for help these days, but someone has to keep you busy. So here it is:

I make websites on my pc upstairs and then put them onto the pc downstairs to upload to the net. Before you ask the reason i do this is because me pc upstairs as all my web design software and my pc downstairs has the net.
Well my problem is that my images/graphics look good and display perfect on the pc i made them on but when put onto the pc downstairs via a floppy disc they appear darker and not as clear. The PC im having problems with the images looking dark on is by far superior to the 1 i am making the graphics on so that cant be it.

Is it something to do with the amount of colours my monitor is outputting or something?

If so where do i look so i can change this?

Also i was wondering does this mean every person that views my site will see the images in a different way as they havent got the same colour set up as me?

Thanks in advance

Call me an idiot but why not move the CD Burner? it would only need to be temporary, all you'd have to do is plug the CD Burner into the slot your upstairs CD drive is in, install the drivers..bish bash bosh..then burn the software onto a pretty CDR and hurry downstairs..kinda reverse everything you've done so far except for the burning, and TA DAA you now have a CD(s) with your software on it, which you could use for backup, very handy, and now both PCs have the software.

My genius is unstoppable.

Thanks for your help! I moved my monitors like u said Nimco and it looks like its just the monitors that give you different shades of colours.

I have a pc burner downstairs but not upstairs but that wont help me get software from upstairs downstairs. lol.

Ill try and borrow and external one of a mate for upstairs.

Well thats enough about my stairs! Thanks!

Is it just the images that are darker? or is the rest of it dark too? + why not move your software onto the PC downstairs? you must be pretty fit from walking up and downstairs all day. Just borrow a CD burner from a friend if you don't have one or get 2 Network cards move one PC closer to the other and transfer.

It sounds like it could just be some kind of error on the monitor, I had one a few weeks ago, go into your control panel and open up any monitor settings programs, like gamma progs..etc

generally, use GIFs if you have several large blocks of a single colour, and JPEGs when you need more colours (GIFs support 256 colours, whereas JPEGs support 16.7 Million). However, the best way to do it is to experiment, and find which gives you the best quality/size.

with regards to your problem, I think it is unlikely that the image would seem significantly darker when saved as a JPEG. more likely, the monitor downstairs is simply a darker screen - our family computer has a much darker monitor than my own, though they are both good quality monitors. they just happen to fade over time. if i were you, and i wanted to test it, i would just try swapping round the monitors to see if that makes any difference. if the picture gets brighter downstairs, then the difference lies in the monitors...

This might not be any help as im wrong, its probable just the properties of your monitor etc.

But if yout transferring your images by floppy disk then you probably saved them as JPEG's which means less colours than a BMP. Plus on a graphic producing program such as Macromedia Fireworks, they allow you o preview your images using different settings etc. Take a look at them first.

Go to the Settings tab. There are two things that may make a difference, the Colour Quality on the bottom right, and Resolution on the bottom right.

Its definetly not a faulty monitor so it must be the properties thing. What am i exactly looking for that could be making the change in colour when clicking properties?

Right click on your desktop -> Properties

However, it may just be the settings of your monitor itself, in which case you have to fiddle with the knobs/buttons. OR it may just be a poor monitor.
