Ok I don’t see the point in this. I’m quite a PC man myself, specs are the sort of thing that I worry about on this platform, not on a games console. If you do that then you are all stupid. Consoles are there for trouble free gaming for every one where you don’t have to worry if a game is going to run. Ok I agree it is worth considering when looking for a new console but it should all be forgotten after the purchase. You don’t want to spend a lot of money buying a machine that is no better than your old one, however there is no need to worry with any of these consoles. But seeing some body brought it up here are the facts. Mhz means absolutely nothing! Everybody who knows anything about computers knows that an AMD XP 1900+ is just as good as a 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4. When the clock speed is only 1.6 Ghz. Every body knows that Pentiums do not offer good performance for the money, however I will have and do have a Pentium in my PC because they are pure quality. They are stable and last forever. My fan failed on my PC fried my processor but it still works. I’m not saying other makes are bad but I like that extra quality.
Any way, back to the topic. The GC uses a custom IBM Power PC processor. Ring any bells? Yes that’s it every computer nuts dream. They are straight out of the good old trusty Mac. Mow go and look at the specs for the Mac. Yep the processor speed are really low, Crap! I hear you mutter! Not at all they can rival the speeds of the fastest Pentiums. That is why many developers are saying that the 485Mhz processor is equal to the 733Mhz Pentium.
As for the small aspect and portability, its not a selling point but it is something extra. Why make something big if it can be made small. People are always customizing PC cases to make then smaller and more compact. It is not only the size that makes it portable though. To something to be completely portable it has to be completely self contained. The GC is almost there but it is not portable quite yet. First it has the screen, this is very important, then the smaller size helps but is not crucial then more importantly is the power supply. The GC is almost there but the PS2 and X-Box will never be there. PS” and X-Box can’t work without a mains socket. This is shown with the PS2 monitor it can not run off the car or a battery like the GC. You are not going to walk down the street with any of these but the GC can be taken with you and used anywhere. However this is where the small problem is. The battery is useless. 3.5 hours is not enough to make it portable in my book. There needs to be some sort of improvement in the battery department. However for use in the car with a lighter socket or on holiday where there is not TV but a socket it is perfect but not portable.
Oh and it is frontline that is coming to GC, it will be on all the consoles I think. This brings me onto another point. Something I would like everybody’s opinion on. These days it seems that almost all third party games are going to all of the consoles. This is where the larger first and second party support Nintendo and Sony have offers a greater range of software that Microsoft does not have at present. It took Sony a long time to build up this quality support that it now has, when they first started in the games industry. Do you think that this will hamper Microsoft and the X-Box in the first few years?
That’s all from me, Debate at will!!
Yes you are right that the cube is almost portable anmd its smaller brother the GBA is very portable this is where the GC scores as well where a scroke of genius said ok we`ll make a link between the GBA and Cube that is another reason why it is selling
Also can people really trust Microsoft they said no change will happen in price this year and what happens ? The sales figgers were very poor so they dropped the price.
