"It's my exams, I must revise, forget about gaming for a while"
However, it's another thing to actually put that concept into reality.
Gaming is an addiction that we all have to conquer; we all get urges to have a few rounds on our consoles at any given time of a day, especially with all the great titles that we have been blessed with in the past and at present, some examples are the Final Fantasy Series, Metal Gear Solid, the Mario & Sonic Adventures and many other personal favourites.
Being a newly graduate from university, I can finally remove the 'student tag', which I have held for the past 15 years of my life and can now hopefully move onto bigger and better things. However it has been extremely difficult with the amount workload that I've had to cope with; especially in the last few months it has been really tough physically and mentally. Exams have played a significant role in my life, I have always had to overcome them in one way or another, and (as much as I have tried!) have never been able to get away from them,
On the other hand gaming has also been an active part of my life and no day is really complete without a few rounds on some of my favourite games. Gaming has been there for me through thick and thin, especially during stressful times and even when revising for my exams I have often looked up at my PS 2 and its sits there motionless tempting me to switch it on and it has often won. Have any of you ever got the feeling ? 'I'll play one more game then revise' but inevitably, you carry on playing.
So taking the above into consideration, can gaming somehow aid us during exam periods rather than be a distraction?
Well imagine entering another world were you can get away from all the exam stress or 'real world' stress in general, the world is perfect for you it has everything how you want it, you are basically 'god' to that world as you control what you do, how you do it and when you do it...
Does this sound too good to be true?
Well its not because gaming is certainly that cross from reality to a virtual world, that keeps you sane and allows you concentrate on more pleasurable factors and control your destiny rather than having to revise 24/7 on things, which you don't always enjoy and have to revise because the powers of the education system say so. With gaming you can certainly take time out to relax and get your head back into order without the use of educational needs.
I have found that if I cannot keep revising or nothing is going into my head, I get inspiration by beating a tough team on Pro Evolution Soccer and when I get back to revision I can transfer that enjoyment into my work and revise much better, I also think about strategy's whilst gaming, I have often come up with bright ideas and ways to revise more constructively, which I couldn't do whilst revising because my head is just filled with too much information.
So is gaming a good idea whilst exams are on?
Well, to get something straight from the beginning 'addiction is here to stay' you cannot just 'click' it away in an instance, you have to work around it and from my experience and the above findings, the answer is yes as long as an individual can obtain a balance between the two, because too much of a good thing can lead to distraction.
So despite what the parents say, a beautiful friendship between gaming and exams can be formed! :-)

Gah. Playing games before exams instead of revising rules. It rids you of all stress :)
Seriously though, it does. I hardly revise for exams, and the schools and their teachers only say that so that the school get a grant from the government the higher their test results are. What a load of pap - I wish they'd quit lying to the ignorant ones among us...
It doesn't matter to me this year though. Next year for AS levels is when I know I'll HAVE to revise, but GCSEs are unbelievably easy. They are by far the easiest exams I have had to do in a long long time.
I have only revised properly for Chemistry so far and it turned out to be not so properly anyway. But it was still fairly easy. Got Stats amd RE tomorrow and then Physics on Wednesday and then I'm done. I'll look over my Stats textbook to remind myself of the topics but that won't take long.
Anyway, I think I have a goddamm virus on my PC! I'll have to run that Norton thing later. If I can find it among all the crap on my PC that is.
Often, i have found, is that it can actually help you. Im not the type of person that can just sit there and revise for 3 hours in just one big bulk, i find myself just sitting there and reading while not actually taking anything in. What i find better is to revise for an hour or more then go relax for a bit, whether this is gaming or TV or just going outside for a while, it often helps. There’s nothing more stress relieving and there’s not much else that can help you unwind during revision as much as a bit of gaming can. It only needs to be a 15 minute go on a simple puzzle game or something like that, anything can help really just to take your mind off things for a little while, it all helps. In the end though it all depends on the person, and if they have the ability to keep a balance on the two.
