I heard on the radio today that some retailers are trying to get the PS2 designated a computer instead of a games console. This would mean that they would not have to pay as much import tax when the PS2 finally reaches our shores. They have also said that any savings that this may bring will be passed directly to the consumer.

Any of you guys heard this?

This is true, Sony are arguing with HM Customs and Excise to get the PS2 designated a computer rather than a games machine to save on import duty.

However this is to save Sony money on the additional costs of launch and there is about has much chance of any saving being passed on has Sony have of winning a argument with the VAt office, you know what i mean.
