Why, but I dont know.

Its really starting to get on my nerves how people can continue to chip and mod their Playstation 2's or any console for that matter. Everyday we hear and see people copying Playstation 2 games, I know loads of people who copy games, music, DVD's and videos and frankly... I could do without it.
I've watched a few pirate videos in my time and to be honest I chipped my PS1, and it turned out aweful. Yes at first it was great, games for a fiver and cheaper sometimes, but sooner rather than later my PS1 was worse than a transexual Spice Girl tribute band.
Games wouldn't work, they would crash half way through, even sometimes I couldn't access the memory cards!
I regretted chipping my PS1 but at that time my PS2 was about to turn up. I sold my PS1 to my brother who then skipped it and go an original cos' it wouldn't work.

Anyway, I've never thought of chipping my PS2, I know it would turn out aweful again. Plus, I want to get into the Gaming Industry later on, and if things continue the way they are then there'll be no gaming industry to go into.
This goes for the movie industry too.
I heard a couple of days ago that they have finally been able to "chip" the X-Box... you have to solder in about 50 wires, but hey! they've done it.
Money is being lost in all directions. If they want to stop people chipping consoles why do they still allow the "chips" to be sold and used. The industry needs to clamp down on the misuse of equipment etc.

I know they're trying to with the raid a few weeks ago where they found the countless DVD copying machines and DVD disks on sale in a London market; Spidermen wan't it and Oceans Eleven or 11 (the opposite to the real one).
The industry is trying but more things need to be done. Tighter security on equipment and the crackdown on employees who or "bent" and supply illegal software and hardware.

Im doing my bit at the moment by not chipping my PS2 and giving into "pirates" and their poorly copied DVD's and videos... I hope your doing your bit too...

Yeah I agree, roast and boiled potatos are far more tasty and much easier to prepare.

Yes, it's bad. Yes it damages the industry, and yes, some copies are duff.

But others aren't. Personally, I've never bothered chipping any of my machines, but I can see the attraction when you can buy 8 games for the price of 1.

You can't blame people for going for it - it's economics, pure and simple.

I had a couple of black and white ones too, I remember when I was easily awaiting Smackdown 2, and the day came when I finally got it (priated and before the release date, see very lacked security) I bought it for a tenna as well double the price because it was before the release date, but after one season of gaming... the game stopped... I took it back and he said it was the demo version and i would get the real one when it was released... I was furious, £10 on a tenth of the game, he kindly gave me the full copy a few days later free of charge... very kind people aren't they!!!

I had MGS1 before the release date also, and that game worked fine, full colour and sound, no problems...
We need to stop this before it starts the price of games rising or the amount of games decreasing in themselves...

I've never really seen the appeal of piracy and chipping. Sure pirated games are cheaper, but they are of much lower quality. I was myself tried pirated software on my PSone, and like you Why?, it cr@ped up my PSone. I pulled out fast enough though, so the console wasn't permanantly ruined.

I only had about 4 copied games, and they were in a pretty sorry state to say the least. One of the games was in black and white, and all tended to freeze and lock up every now and again. It put me off what seemed like the ideal way to save some money on my gaming hobby.

I work now, so can afford just about any game I want. The cost for me isn't much of a problem anymore sinse I can afford it. I don't mind paying full price for a game, whether it's £10 or £45, just so long as the game's worth it.

Piracy for me is long gone. I tried it, didn't like it and will probably never resort to it ever again, despite the amount of money I could save if I still continued to get games copied. I agree that the industry needs to look at new ways to stop piracy, to me it looks like their not doing enough.
