My friend has recently bought a new laptop with Windows XP operating system. The problem she is occuring is when she leaves the mouse alone, it selects what it is hovering over automatically. This becomes a problem in Microsoft Word when she types and the mouse hovers over the text above, it selects the text and she continues to type in the wrong place. This becomes a problem and is anoying.

Help needed to configure XP not to do this.

Help well appreciated.

There's been a similar feature since Win98 on the Active Desktop settings, where hovering over a file in Explorer would select it, and you'd only have to click once (rather than double-click) to open the file.

But this has never affected typing. There is nothing in Windows that I know of which will actually take the place of physically clicking the left mouse button at least once, which is what you would have to do to get the effect that Why? is talking about.

I can't find an option like that, why would there be one? For people without mouse buttons?

I don't think there's anything on a WinXP default installation which would cause that. In fact, I can't think of any XP settings which would allow you to enable such a setting.

It sounds more like there is a defective switch on the left button, which is causing it to be activated by the vibration of normal typing.

Just have a look in the control panel, there's an option somewhere. Mouse options are a good start.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
