I believe in them.

When I was 13, I used to do a paper round and I distinctly remember walking to the shop one morning at 6 and seeing someone behind me running really stupidly (running with his knees coming up really high , if you know what I mean?). The area I lived in was known for druggies so I was scared and looked away but then when I looked back he was gone. I carried a knife for the next two years when I was doing my round.

There are many theories as to the cause of ghostly apparitions, but don't forget that hauntings are not only about these. Poltergeist don't need to be seen and tend to manifest themselves through others, usually early teenagers (and then, mostly girls).

I don't think any one theory truly gets to the bottom of this, but I'm sure we may well find out in time whether they are spirits from another realm or merely apparitions from the hidden places in the mind.

Specially when someone like me has seen one ....... but i cannot answer what they are and why a theory goes that they are echos from the past

Ghosts are phantasmal images projected by the mind.
Sightings usually occur in unusual and remarkable situations and locations.
Fear of the unknown creates many different and peculiar effects, one of which is ghosts.
So no, I don't believe in ghosts as in that they exist in a physical objective sense.
For me they are figments of the imaginations: mirages of fear and uncertainty.
Of course, I could be wrong.

I really have no idea. Guess there could be, and guess there couldn't be. I don't really have a side to take, because there's no real arguement for either. :0)
