Has anyone got one of these yet? Is it actually worth getting if all you want to do is code crappy PS2 games? And will it allow you to transfer the program (somehow) onto CD, possibly by using the 'net to upload the software, then download onto your PC for CD-writing purposes?

Or maybe not.

And is it worth it???

Nargh!

Mandrake is truly awful, you should have got RH7.2. Hell, I'd recommend Win95 over Mandrake*!

I don't know why you're recompiling your kernel so often. You DO you know you can load them as modules? Have you got the latest 2.4.x kernel from kernel.org?

I've actually got Mandrake Linux running on my PC (not now though). At the moment I'm at the "messing around" stage. Next, the importance of updating the kernel every 3 minutes.

You're best off getting a hardcore Linux distribution like Gentoo for a PC and playing around with that to see if you can use it. Linux isn't something you just "learn" and trying to learn on a PS2 is a really bad idea.

I was going to get one of these but then changed my mind because I couldn't think of much that I could do with it. I guess it would be fun to play around with but I didn't feel like spending that much cash for me just to use it a coupe of times.

I'll probably just use mine as a general workstation in my room. It's much better than having a massive computer humming away, and I can use IRC without having to go downstairs.

I'm guessing this is the PS2 equivalent of the Yaroze PS1s. If this is the case, then it's VERY worthwhile for people who want to get into the coding side of the industry.

Do be warned though- it takes a lot of work...

Oh, and I think the console links with the PC, and you code on a PC. Then you can burn to CD and play on your console.

The official PS1 mag used to take simple games that bedroom coders had made on yaroze, and put them on its demo discs...
