Goodness me! a PS2 game that actually lives up to its hype!
In the current context of close competition between the console companies, the gaming industry has been drowning in its own promotional nonsense. Every developer is forced to launch sycophantic PR campaigns at the gaming press, and now a typical title will require a huge advertising budget to afford the usual cardboard cut-outs and promotional welly boots emblazened with the title logo. I don't really have a problem with this, as apart from ramping up the costs of games slightly, that is just part of consumer culture. However...
I'm sure I'm not alone in declaring I have become slightly jaded and cynical about hyped up releases. Similarly, I am paying less and less attention to the gaming press' opinions... there's no longer any magazines that accurately reflect my own taste in games, and journalists who remain unaffected by expensive marketing are few and far between.
But, for the first time since GT3, here is a game that actually lives up to popular expectations. In my opinion, the only other game to do that was GTA3, which surpassed all expectations thanks to being underexposed to the media at the time of its release. But, as you would expect, EA have thrown MOH in everyone's faces like a rusty stick-bomb, and the marketing of this game was about as subtle as a Nazi shouting 'Schnell! Schnell!' very loudly in your ear... and in my experience, EA are usually prepared to do this even for fairly lacklustre titles... as such MOH Frontline really does stand out.
Unlike Devil May Cry or MGS2, MOH seems to deserve the near perfect scores it has been receiving in various games mags. When I first played it, I was prepared to be slightly disappointed... as is often the way when you're waiting for and anticipating a hugely hyped product. But, from my first go I was grinning from ear to ear, sat forward on my sofa, gasping and making 'oooh' and 'ah' noises. I didn't stop playing it for 5 hours.
This game had the same impact on me as my acquisition of Goldeneye for the N64 a few years back. It's incredibly atmospheric, immersive and often very tense. For once, the hype-mongers seem to be justified in their over-excited ways. If you like FPSs, or want a WW2 atmosphere, this game is precisely what you are looking for. It is only a WW2 FPS, don't expect anything else, there's little or no innovation here... but it is done as well as you could possibly hope for.
My faith in the gaming industry is restored.
...What's everyone else's opinions? Has MOH lived up to its hype and your hopes?
Deus Ex is better than Frontline.
So get that, cipro.
> moh is frontline is bad ive got it
Well what a good point you've made. And stop spamming.
I think I'll get frontline next month, when I get paid. It's definatly a game I'm looking forward too, if it's anything like the PC MOH, then I think it will be a game that just has to be added to my games collection. Bit dissapointing about the the fact there is no 2-player mode though, that's something I really enjoyed on the origanal two MOH games on the PSone.

shows that ps2 is just as amazing in the graphics and sound department as the gamecube and billybox
*spanks Sony and EA*
> Can you beleive what score Edge magazine gave this - 5/10,
It's madness isn't it. I used to really value the opinion of Edge staff, but these days they have become the exact opposite of their hype-mongering peers... I think they put this game down purely as a reaction to its massive promotion. Edge journos are those small bearded, thick spectacled type who are moving further and further away from objective reporting... it's a darn shame really.
If you like FPS and have not yet bought this I highly recommend it.
