The news I've come back to is that Nintendo are thinking of 'doing a Sega' and quitting the hardware market after the cube. This is partly due to the demand for cheap hardware from the public and the risky business of trying to recoup the losses from software.
Perhaps they're right, or maybe it's a bluff to get the other companies to bring out their new hardware earlier and with a lower spec before Nintendo release a new secret console, but either way its at least another 4 or 5 years away.
So what do you lot think about their decision? Would they be fools to leave the hardware market after the fantastic Cube, or are they doing what they should be to stay competitive?

BEAT YA TO IT, SUCKA!
I think they should try and get Sega to become their partner, and Ninty and Sega could work together on a console, whilst going multi-format also.
You never know.... it could happen...
Still, at least Nintendo don't have to worry about their games at the moment...and if they get stuck, they can READ MY NEW TOPIC IN PRIME, THE DUFFER'S GUIDE TO MAKING GAMES. *clears throat*
Maybe Sega would be tempted to go halves with Nintendo on a new console? After all, they're getting some dough back to cover the DC's losses, maybe they'll end up with cash to burn.
Nintendo already has a slice of the gaming business pie, but it's nowhere near as big as Sony's...and it might not ever be able to get back on top. What I think would be a smart move, is to perhaps collaborate with another company wanting to perhaps go into the home console market (maybe an electronics company like Sony), and help them to make the hardware...whilst going multiformat (although having a lot of exclusives for this 'nintendo' console).
Although they should milk the hand-held market for all it's worth =D
