Well, I'm back after a hard week's work. Yes, I've been there Monday and Tuesday and not seen any sight of a street party or even a firework.

The news I've come back to is that Nintendo are thinking of 'doing a Sega' and quitting the hardware market after the cube. This is partly due to the demand for cheap hardware from the public and the risky business of trying to recoup the losses from software.

Perhaps they're right, or maybe it's a bluff to get the other companies to bring out their new hardware earlier and with a lower spec before Nintendo release a new secret console, but either way its at least another 4 or 5 years away.

So what do you lot think about their decision? Would they be fools to leave the hardware market after the fantastic Cube, or are they doing what they should be to stay competitive?

I don't think Ninty should do a Sega.

I think they should try and get Sega to become their partner, and Ninty and Sega could work together on a console, whilst going multi-format also.

You never know.... it could happen...

Yeah...good job I'm not Nintendo President. Every five minutes I'd have to have a press conference refuting points I'd made in the last one.

Still, at least Nintendo don't have to worry about their games at the moment...and if they get stuck, they can READ MY NEW TOPIC IN PRIME, THE DUFFER'S GUIDE TO MAKING GAMES. *clears throat*

Maybe Sega would be tempted to go halves with Nintendo on a new console? After all, they're getting some dough back to cover the DC's losses, maybe they'll end up with cash to burn.

Good point. It seems a more likely story that Nintendo would find a partner to collaborate with, as they always like working on their own hardware best. But, and just a small but, they may well have been won over by just how fast the ailing Sega had a turn-around in fortunes after becoming a software only company.

Interesting. I read that bit of news at Gamespot, and I have an idea.

Nintendo already has a slice of the gaming business pie, but it's nowhere near as big as Sony's...and it might not ever be able to get back on top. What I think would be a smart move, is to perhaps collaborate with another company wanting to perhaps go into the home console market (maybe an electronics company like Sony), and help them to make the hardware...whilst going multiformat (although having a lot of exclusives for this 'nintendo' console).

Although they should milk the hand-held market for all it's worth =D

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
