Was listening to “Amnesiac” tonight with a mate, trying to find the tracks I liked on it (Packed like Sardines + I Might Be Wrong), when he hit on why they annoy me so much now.
“When it was time for him to do his vocals, did they just wheel him into the studio still in bed and just nudge him awake?”

And that’s exactly what it sounds like. Like someone that just cant be bothered to inhale and exhale properly to form notes, it’s the sigh of an old man when he fouls himself for the umpteenth time that morning.
Yorke used to sing like he cared about it, like it meant something to be able to sing for a living and make music with friends that other people liked enough to buy.
Now it’s the almost asleep mumblings of gimpy misery-guts.
“It got to the point where melody was my enemy” said Thom. Well then I guess being in a band isn’t the right thing eh? Go put on overalls and fix cars or something.

And he has a son.
Can you imagine parent’s evening at school? Mrs Yorke is in front of Little Thom’s teacher and teacher says
“Well Little Thom could do well, but he just lacks…well…motivation. He just sits there in a slump with a line of drool from his lip to his chin. I don’t understand it.”
“Ah” sighs Mrs Yorke, “That’ll be from his father’s side of the family”
And right on cue, in comes Thom in bed, being wheeled into the hall by his helpers.
They wheel him up to the teacher, Thom just sighs and blinks an eye before being wheeled out again.
“Of course” nods the teacher, “I forgot.”
“…meh” says Little Thom before collapsing in a heap.

And down the empty corridor of school can be heard the plaintative keening of Thom Sr. as he is forced to accept yet another award for creating now-passionless krautrock.

I was going to disagree with you on this one. But I wanted to be fair so I went and listened just to check.

How completely bizarre. He really does sound like someone who's been prodded awake.

I can picture him now...

I've only listened to Amnesiac and Kid A a handful of times since I bought them, and although I quite liked them on first listen, I wouldn't put them on again now. You're right, it's like he can't even be bothered any more - hell, I'm sure he's got unspeakable problems that we can't even touch upon, by why force us to listen to your semi-conscious gibberings?

The most annoying thing? You know that Radiohead aren't a band that have run out of talent, it's just simmering under, waiting to explode. But it's failed to make an appearance on the last two albums. If the next one is similar, I may just give up on them.
