Last night I was board, there was nothing to watch, then I discovered the Cartoon network channel, Boomerang. I looked through what was on. There was a load of poor scooby doo rip offs, but between the junk was some great, classic programs. Until 5 am I was watching some of my favourite shows from when I was a kid, and they're still great today.

First was Top cat and what followed this was some other memorable cartoons. The Flinstones, Inch high private eye, The jetsons, Scooby Doo, Wacky races, Catch the pigion, and best of all... HONG KONG PHOOEY! (The number one super guy!)

It was great seeing these shows again, most of which I havent seen for many years. It really shows how poor cartoons are today, with the exception of The Simpsons, Family guy, Futurama and all the other animated comedies. I mean Cow and chicken, Dexters laboratory, what the hell is up with those. I miss the days when kids cartoons came with canned laughter, sure it was tacky but them shows were enjoyable.

Hanna Barbara were pure genius. It is amazing that some of the cartoons were so good, lasted so long and were very popular. Take Wacky races for example, a simple bases, a race involving cartoon characters and they're custom built racers. It is amazing how this show kept going, I couldnt repeativly come up with a plot for different races.

The popularity of some of these cartoons is being mooched off by the movie industry. The Flintstones and Josie and the - SR wont let me say it - cats have already had movie versions. Soon everyones favourite talking dog (except for the dog from Family guy) Scooby doo, and his 'team' of annoying, mystery solving teens will be hitting the screen. Lets hope this time, it will stay true to the show, mentioning no names...The flintstones. I saw the trailer today and it doesnt look to bad, im not sure what the plot is exactly but its got a CGI scooby doo and Sarah Michelle Gellar so it cant be too bad, can it?

If I was in the movie industry and not some guy who makes a post about childrens cartoon programs, I would make movies of Top cat and Hong Kong Phooey. Imagine a CGI Phooey and his cat cruising around in a car and doing karate moves. But knowing Hollywood the next movie conversion will be the Jetsons. I can see it know George gets a new job or a promotion, has trouble with his family so they leave him for a bit then some how everything sorts itself out. Meh!

So, what is everyones favourite Hanna Barbara cartoon and why?

What cartoon would work well as a movie?

Also which do you think has the best theme music?
If you ask me the best is Hong Kong Phooey, followed by Top cat and then The Flinstones and finaly the jetsons. The best music HAS to be Hong Kong Phooey again. 'Hong kong Phooey, number one super guy'

So I have talked about cartoons from back in the day long enough, now it's your turn. I know a lot of you have an obsession with Transformers, please dont bring them into this conversation.

I really didnt have much liking for the hannah barbera cartoons, i grew up watching the teenage mutant hero turtles. These days a few cartoons still have me chuckilng. Spongebob squarepants, rugrats and angry beavers spring to mind.
