A couple of weeks ago I realised, although it was no doubt always in my sub-concious, that game developers are relying more and more on a sound track to sell their game. NHL Hitz 2002 was released a few weeks back on the Gamecube (by Midway) and on the back of the box it stated "In game juke-box featuring hit songs from Limp Bizkit, Korn..." and the list continues. The same thing happened with Tony Hawks 3 as well as Jet Set Radio 2. The developers for Jet Set Radio 2 claimed that tracks for the game will be provided by the likes of the Latch Brothers (as well as other electronic/breakbeat groups). Now for those that don't know, the Latch Brothers are made up of 3 members one of which is Mike d from the Beastie boys. Now in my naive thinking I thought that, because Mike d, in my opinion, is a good artist that the tracks would also be good or at least well worth a listen. So I actually considered buying the game. Then I realised that this was the exact process of thinking that game developers want buyers to do. Developers believe that, just by adding a mediocre track list, that they can shift a few more copies. And the thing that annoys me most is that it actually works! 10 to 13 years olds see that Slipknot (or some other poor group) feature on games and so they buy them....Naturally there are exceptions in the form of Tony Hawks 3 that manages to mix a half-decent (still poor) sound track with good gameplay. It's so annoying to see this technique depolyed by developers because as we see the Music industry grow and evolve, we will also be subject to the reoccurrence of poor quality games which focuses on the Music rather then gameplay or graphics.......

Phew........at least theres Still Zelda.......

I know the deal with FF. Don't get me wrong, many games have brilliant original soundtracks. My problem is with games that use it as a selling point.

I find most of those real-artist soundtracks to be very annoying - give me The Gerudo Theme on OOT anyday!
