I've been long awaiting this damn game so now I need some honest opinions of people who have played it.

Is it good? Does it have good characters including old kung-fu grandmasters?

But you didn't save it when you lost did you? 72 wins on Kumite is damn near impossible without a single loss. Once you make it to !1st Dan, there is always the occassional Akira who kicks your ars with ease!

I got to 3rd, then couldn't win any more fights. Well, I lost more than I won anyway.

I've been playing VF4 more and more since I got it on its release date, I rate it pretty highly. I was new to the VF series so I'm not sure if the characters are the usuals, but I thought most of them were pretty ninja. Especially the drunken old dude, he's classy.

It's the first 3d fighter I've ever found any depth in... which means you only get out of the game what you put in. Even now I'm only half decent with 3 of the characters: but when you start to master the moves and it becomes more natural, this game totally sucked me in.

I got it on release and to be honest, it was the greatest fighting game i had ever played. I thought it was better than DOA3, but then it all got a little boring. I couldn't get to grips with the A.I mode and the Kumite wasn't all that rewarding. I had thought 72 matches, all wins, and only got a couple of items. I got to 2nd Dan but wasn't that pleased with it. The fights weren't all that great but some of Kage-Maru's moves were spectacular. Unlike Tekken, you need skill to play this game because button bashing simply doesn't work. Creating a player account was quite fun, especially taking your memory card round a friends and whooping their butt. The most fun i had on the game, was when i played it with the dance mat. I wasn't all that bad, i won 3 out of 5 games and drew 1. The funniest thing was watching my friend, as he isn't the most co-ordinated of us all. Overall i would give it a frank 6/10. A great touch is being able to change the background.

Well, I can't say I've played the forth incarnation of the game, but as Vottanator says, it isn't a "casual" game. It's not like the kind of instantly rewarding, button-bashing game you may be used to...

I have hardly played it despite having owned it since release. It does seem really good (honestly) but it just requires so much time to get into it and I got my and Rogue Leader just after it. Then I got FFX, Smash Bros and Wave Race. I just haven't been in the mood for a game that requires so much practice.

If you have loadsa spare time then it's probably worth it but if you haven't, then a more straight forward fighter is probably better.

I'll definitely go back to it at a later date to get into it more but at the moment I am completely obsessed with FFX.
