Stupid junk mail. Its all a load of crap. I for one know that you can't copy PS2 games onto CD-R at a click of a button. That said, if you look at the small print it doesn't include PS2 DVDs. Anyway, moving on...
As you all know, its half term week, and since I'm stuck at home and incredibly bored, I'm spending ages online. Today, I came across a program which supposedly can 'copy PS2 games in one easy step'. I downloaded it to see if it really could. Well, funnily enough I came across pretty much the opposite of 'one easy step'. And its lucky that it isn't just one easy step, because if is then the average Joe would be able to copy their own PS2 games. I thought I was computer literate when it comes to programming. Turns out I was partially wrong.
I started out by downloading some strange program which was terribly annoying because the instructions were written in Japanese and were incredibly complicated. After spending an hour trying to read most of it, I figured there were a load of programs I had to download which each did an individual thing to change all the files to make a technically very different game. So I did.
At this stage I wasn't sure if I was actually making a copied game or just a ROM to play on the PC. Apparently I can do both, but it involves very annoying and strange Wav manipulation and ADPCM compression. I'm no whizz at using these crap programs which are only a few 100KB in size, but I still did OK.
Thing is, after a few stages into, I realised that what I was doing was really clever, mainly due to the fact that I'd just made a playable version of GTA3 for my PC, by multiplexing to reduce the audio to a quarter of its original size consequently making it one hell of a lot smaller.
Then it started to go wrong, because of a few things involving:
a) Memory
b) Copywrite protection
and
c) The program can only run sections of code at a time, meaning I can't actually play it on my PC and I have not got a mod chip for my PS2 which means I wouldn't be able to play whatever I'd been spending ages doing
So I'm left with about 5 GB worth of files, programs and general crap with which I've tried to break what Sony has stopped us from trying to break. Added to that, it just isn't worth it. I'd much rather do 3 hours of proper work and buy an original than spend 3 hours trying to crack a game.
The moral?
If you want copied PS2 games, just buy them at a car boot sale.
The proper moral?
Only idiots respond to junk mail. Unless this miracle program can do all the things which took me about 3 hours to do plus what I didn't, then its just a con. Only stupid people copy games, PS2 or otherwise. Don't be a plonker by copying games - keep gaming alive and buy the real thing. And if you say you're able to copy PS2 games, you're a liar, a cheat and a criminal. Or the next Bill Gates.
Damn it, this is the reason why I prefer console gaming so much more to PC gaming - PCs are just so damn complicated, and emulation is one of the most annoying things in the world.

My mate went on the school China trip (don't ask) and brought back a load of pirate DVDs (Lord of the Rings, for a start), fake Oakleys and fake Rolex's, all looking exactly like the real thing. The DVDs even had the proper press-the-middle-to-pop-out thing.
