Fair point mate, but when you say 'Genesis' do you mean Saturn? Genesis was the American version of the Mega Drive, which was competing against the SNES of course...
But you are right when you say that, cos Dreamcast had sooo many original and great things to offer PS2 never did, and as I said it was all down to history, if the Genesis did better than Playstation, then it would be the winning console at the moment!!!
Its all down to history and Sony fans were awaitng the sequel of the PS.
But I really wish DC had done amazingly well, SEGA derserve it!!!!!

Cos prats believed Sony's hype over the PS2 and worshipped the cr@p it was made from.
SEGA did release a lot of quality SEGa games.... but they lacked thrid party support on DC and that really let them down, its also down to history, Genesis did worse than PLaystation, and from then on Sony had a bigger fan base than SEGA which leads to PS2 doing better than DC!
As you said, how could it have failed! It had everything going for it:
Online Play (a first)
First 128 bit
£100 cheaper than PS2
Small
VMU!!! (very original)
Lots of perpherals
