There are many nintendo magazines on sale and many are different. Nintendo Official Magazine has recently changed to keep up with the times plus they have very tough competition with unofficial magazines which include my personal favourite, NGC. I feel that NGC are more grown up but NOM have recently realised this and became more mature themselves. One magazine I recently found in the shops that i have never noticed before is G-FORCE magazine, which I think used to focus on a GBA magazine. Also magazines are trying to out do each other with 'freebies'!
Freebies..
So magazines are now giving us better stuff than just a poster then? I bought Junes NGC magazine last month and it included a thirty minuite dvd including the full trailer of the Spiderman movie! This interactive dvd is well set out and it shows you some pretty good footage of some really nice looking games. With G-FORCE magazine, i also recived a dvd. A little shorter but it included some well awaited Resident Evil footage! It also includes a feature entitled 'GAMECUBE VS X-BOX'. I was in my local GAME (Norwich) a few days ago and i picked up a free video, well i picked up a few (why not?).. The VHS was 45 minutes long and like the DVD with NGC magazine included some great footage. It makes the little demo given away in the cube shape cover look pants!
When I purchased a Dreamcast in September 2001, I bought Dreamcast Magazine (Paragon Publishing, fact fans!) as it was the only Dreamcast magazine still running. Now it's gone, and even though I still own my Dreamcast, I've set my sites on (eventually) buying a Gamecube... and as a result I've started buying NGC Magazine again and I'm happy to say that it remains my favourite games related magazine of all time. This being mainly due to the fact that it has lost none of the humour (for a prime example of this, see the Universal Studios review in NGC67), grammatically superior reviews and decent letters section, along with the unique way that NGC kind of interacts with the readers in a way that I can't really explain.
Whatever it is that they're doing... they're doing it well.
