Seaman was forced to make a series of late saves to preserve a point after Sweden fought back from going behind to Sol Campbell's early goal.
Campbell scored his first goal for England with a header from a David Beckham corner in the 24th minute.
But Beckham was withdrawn after an hour and by that time Sweden had equalised through Niclas Alexandersson.
England's defence looked shaky even after they took the lead and their frailties were exposed as Danny Mills slipped up.
Mills attempted to chest the ball back to Seaman but Henrik Larsson was alert enough to intercept and wehen Mills tried to redeem his mistake, he succeeded only in clearing the ball to Alexandersson.
Alexandersson calmly jinked inside to give himself more room and delivered a stinging half-volley which flew past Seaman.
Only a smart low save by Seaman from Teddy Lucic kept England in the game two minutes later and Beckham was soon forced out of the action due to his lack of match-sharpness.
His replacement was another injury doubt, Kieron Dyer, but still Sweden flooded forward, with Seaman this time denying Lucic and then Anders Svensson shooting wildly over the top.
Michael Owen hit the side-netting with a snap-shot, while Emile Heskey flashed a drive across the face of goal and then rose high to head narrowly past the far post.
Deep into injury-time, another defensive error - this time by Ashley Cole - allowed Larsson a sight of goal but he pulled his shot wide.

I think he's Scottish actually??

You won't.
Trust me.
I say it'll be 2 - 1 to England, but it ain't going to be a thrashing.
It was a good match. We played the best in the first half they played the best in the second half 50/50.
We should thrash Nigeria.
