urr I was just after some help with the flying dragon boss, the one on the airship, I've tried it 12 times and my brother has tried it 7 times, but it seems to be... impossible. rather than flaming us for our ff skills (which are, dare I say, top notch) can you offer some help? basically - I know exactly what I'm doing, as does my bro, I had him down to 3000 health and hit him with three limit breaks, and he retaliated with inhale, poision breath, attack (auron dead), attack (wakka dead) attack (kimarhi injured), attack (kimarhi dead). yes I'm using all the relevant items and so on, is there some trick to it... basically as soon as he gets below a certain amount of hp he just uses as many goes as he wants to finish us off. pretty cheesy.

I havent reached this boss yet, and I dont think I'm close to fighting it but I've got the official guide to the rescue, in my opinion this is the best guide to FFX and its also spoiler-free get it if your stuck and dont want to use an AR2 though its better if you actually play the whole game using the guide because sometimes it may be too late to make improvements when your stuck.

I found it surprisingly easy as well, and followed a similar strategy to yours (its written in a different post below). The only battle I've found hard (and actually got killed due to being so hard) is that hybrid creature the arena man creates, which kills whoever it attacks and has really high agility.

To say the truth its quite a new experience but I prefer it to the charachter levels because it gives you more freedom on how your charachters become more powerful.

i haven't found a single fight in this game particularly difficult yet...the hardest so far has been this flying thing but i beat that on my first go without using Al Bhed potions and only hasting one person...

OH MY GOD!
I did this boss last night and i'm not trying to boast (I'M NOT) but i found this very easy. I had Auron, Tidus and wakka. I attacked with Auron, Tidus used haste on everyone. When the boss poisoned me, i made the ship fly away from it. I swapped Auron for Rikku and then used an Al Bhed potion. Then wakka would continuously attack while the ship would fire it's missiles. I would swap rikku back for Auron and then cure Auron with an antidote. I find this method very reliable and easy to use.

My sister got stuck on this battle this afternoon ;)

Here is a foolproof strategy:

Have Rikku, a person with haste and a strong attacker in your party.

If you can, use Rikku's limit break and combing 2 items for Super Mighty G
Have the person with haste cast it on everybody
Have the strong attacker continuously attack the dragon thing. In my case, it was Wakka but it could be Tidus, Auron or Kimahri.

Whenever the dragon does any status attack, get Rikku to use Al Bhed Potion.

If Rikku doesn't need to heal or anything, get her to use the items which do an elemental attack 6 times in a row.

Get the person with haste to constantly attack the Dragon after casting haste as well.

It should work, but its up to your tactics as well.

Yeah, I found this a bit tricky. It did take me a few goes I have to admit and I didn't have much immunity to him in my armors. It really showed how much I depended on Yuna and her Cure abilities. The only thing that got me by was Rikku's Al Bhed potions. I started at the save sphere before the fight with 82 Al Bhed potions and the next time I saved it I only had 59. :-D

Oh by the way, I dunno if you realise or not, but if you get Cid to pull back the ship, sometimes he fires loads of missiles at it. I only figured this out on the third go or so but it's pretty risky as you need to be away from it for quite a few goes.

To avoid the poison breath you need to predict when he's gonna do it. I dunno if there is a pattern but I could usually predict it (or I just got lucky) and got Cid to pull the ship away. That puts him out of range to hit you with the poison.

And one more thing, after you defeat this boss you have quite a few more fights to go through before getting the chance to save it. My heart was racing in one of those battles as all but one of my characters was dead and I thought I was gonna lose. Luckily, I didn't and made it to the save sphere. Just warning you, don't take any chances.

In fact, that reminds me of something I did in a battle last night. It was the worst mistake I had ever made in a battle. I was on a boss that had 70,000 hit points. He isn't that hard but he is quite annoying as he occassionally casts a spell that takes all you hits away and another which totally anhialates everything. Anyway, I took him all the way down to 1,100 hitpoints. Then I had a choice to make. I could either make Yuna summon an Aeon (I had a few left with overdrives ready) or I could take a chance and just make a normal attack with Tidus. I decided to keep my Aeon's overdrives and not use them so I decided to hit him with Tidus instead (another problem was I thought my Aeon might die, therefore losing it's overdrive if I didn't kill him). So, I attacked with Tidus and only took 900 HP off him. He was left with 200HP, cast his Total Anhilation move and destroyed all my characters. I couldn't believe how stupid I was! Anyway, I retried this morning after the England game (MY GOD LARSON SHOULD HAVE SCORED!!!) and did it no problem.

Well, to protect against his status effect attacks, equip the appropriate weapons etc. so that it does nothing. Whoever has 'haste' should cast it on everybody, then just attack him with your strongest people/cast magic. If you can get Rikku's limit break, mix a 'light curtain' with the other light item (can't remember which) and it'll cast 'super mighty G'. This will give everybody haste, regen, shell and protect. This will pretty much make you immune to his attacks. Also, Rikku's 'Use' ability is great if he petrify's anybody, because using an 'Al Bhed Potion' takes everybody off any status effects and gives everybody 1000HP.

I killed it in one go and didn't find it too hard, but that's because Wakka has Hastega and Slowga :)
