Color and Colour - both mean the same thing but presented in different ways. Okay, why have I put this in FOG Prime? It's obviously not about gaming, right? Wrong. I am talking about 'Color and Colour' games, or 'Color and Colour' gaming. You've probably never heard of it before, but neither did I until I just made it up. But seriously, it has got a valid point.

Well, 'Color and Colour' gaming is like the words, they mean the same thing but are presented diffrently. Games that are copied in some way or another and set in a new way to the original game or genre, to simply make the game they are creating seem different in some way.

Now I have to start with Luigi's Mansion. It's a great game in it's own right, but as many people have pointed out, flawed in places. But if you played the basic game; without the Luigi, without the haunted mansion, what do you get? A classic fishing game. Nintendo have got the formula or a fishing game and turned it into a Mario style platformer, which can also be described as a 'Color and Colour' title.

Sometimes it isn't just gameplay that is copied across and made into something different, there's always graphics as well. Jet Set Radio Future, a brilliant game which uses cel-shading to compliment the grafity in the game. But after that it's been used in so many different ways. It will be appearing in Dragons Lair 3D and The Legend of Zelda for the GameCube. You could easily describe these as 'Color and Colour' titles.

But even though 'Color and Colour' titles may be classed as copying, which is bad thing, believe me, it isn't a bad thing when it's a 'Color and Colour' title. The simply reason for this is, if someone is trying to do something different and the same, they are obviously going to keep the good bits of the formula they're are using and replace the bits that didn't work with new ideas to improve the game. Look at Luigi's Mansion, is it fishing game? Yes. But is it fishing title? No. It may confuse you at first, but it really will make sense once you think about it.

So as more games come and go, the ones that go will some become 'Color and Colour' titles, believe me.

Good topic Rickoss!

I think Star X on the GBA is another example.
Bam! have tried to make this game look just like Starwing on the SNES, but it runs smoother. It's not upto the Starfox standards though. It may look like it but it's nowhere near as good, according to the reviews.

Because it looks like the SNES classic, many people will believe it to be just like it - or even better - without having played/read about it properly. I was interested untill I read into it.

It's looks like Starwing to grab attention, but it's nothing like it on the inside.

So its kind of like... Rez and Starfox. Rez is Starfox with a massive twist (ie. makes musical noises, bleeps, different kind of concept)

Bad example, but it still is an example.
