The threat of a 'Nuclear War' is one of the most frightening topics that will be ever discussed, but it is not a topic we can avoid when we are surrounded by mind blowing technology and the effects pointed out to us when we read and watch the devastation take place in both digital and real time surroundings!

The threat of a 'Nuclear war' is more probable than you think, imagine World War 3 and how the war will be fought, man to man combat won't play much of a part at all and with technology getting more and more unbelievable each day countries are battling for supremacy in both economical and political ways fighting for the values in which they believe in. As we all know World War 2 was started by a few and I use the term lightly 'men' wanting supremacy for one race and one race only THEIR OWN! If these 'men' were alive today they would still share the same values of race and actions which is rather spine chilling when the world can literally be ended by the 'push of a few buttons'.

Nuclear missiles are a debatable issue when it comes to world politics, and as you read this there are people world wide fighting for the ban of these 'incredibly devastating' weapons. Recently Pakistani troops have moved in on India threatening their very 'living quarters' with armed forces and powerful machines that are manned by men with one aim on their mind, 'to fight for their country', India has retaliated to this, with the threat of a war! Such dominant countries will drag neighbouring nations into the battle and as with the threat of Kosovo we could be facing a war and in fact, it could be a 'Nuclear War'. The signs are all in place, 2 years a go India shipped in a 'Nuclear Warhead' for testing but the warhead is still armed and in the country, as with India, Pakistan also have several 'Nuclear Warheads' which are just in-land off the 'Pakistan-India' boarder and with the possible threat from India they are also armed and pointing on neighbouring nations.

After watching a very thought provoking program on 'BBC2' a few weeks back I began to think about what will happen when the next war breaks out? The program watched a team of Marine Commandos infiltrate a facility as a training session to eliminate the threat of terrorists and bombs which were placed on subsequent flooring from the bottom to the top of the building. No longer was this a war as we would expect, it was a battle of technology against man power! The marines worked together in a team of 8 commandos with one commanding officer, all the marines were equipped with night vision goggles, thermal imaging goggles, various weapons and other sensors to help them through the building. This is where it really struck me! Before stepping around the next corner, the marines scanned the area with various pieces of equipment and the thermal imaging goggles were used to pick up any heat sensors in the area, one of the marines had a heart beat sensor and others were checking for any bomb devices that may lurk around on the walls and on the ground. The program was showing that in the next war technology would beat man power and how it would aid the prosperous nations which have and can afford all the latest in defensive weaponry! The program was both frightening to watch and think about, the next war would be about technology! What? As the attack on the world Trade centres showed, all the technology the English and American governments have we still have not found the main culprit of the attack and he is still at large in Afghanistan where the lands are baron and the conditions are very unpredictable, we are fighting a losing battle!

Although we as a nation are prepared against such threats with missile defence systems a 'Nuclear Warhead' is almost unstoppable once it is launched! After the 'Cold War' people thought that 'nuclear warhead' around the world would be eradicated, no longer did the people want the threat of a Nuclear Attack in their lives. Throughout the 'Cold War' people began to live with the fact of the 'Nuclear Threat' but in this day and age should we eradicate such 'evil' from our lives and finally disarm the 'Nuclear Warheads' which plague our world today?

Treaties between governments can be easily over looked when it comes down to political power and there are people in this world today that are prepared to die for their causes. In Palestine people are prepared to act as 'Kamikazes' all 'for a strip of land' which they believe rightfully belongs to them and at the end of the day and after analysing the political values this is basically what it comes down to; but innocent people lose their lives because of acts like this and at the age of '15' I would not like to be put in the situation where death was just lying in wait around the next corner, but as the Pizza bombing from the Palestinians showed people face this threat every day of their lives!

We may question, why? Why do we put ourselves in a situation where everything can be ended in a matter of hours? We wouldn't want to be under the threat of a suicide bombing each day but if we think about it, whilst ever Nuclear Warheads are armed we are all under the same threat! I believe that warheads world wide should be disarmed, the nations of this world are fighting against terrorism and this is where they could start, eradicate the threat and finally put an end to the threat of a 'Nuclear War' and lest make the world a safer place for future generations that will follow on after us, just think of your future children and what they might have to face! If that isn't enough to make us change the way we live, then what will?

Thankyou for reading.

This is why mutually assured destruction exists. And that's been fine since the end of the cold war. The problem now is that new issues are arising. Dubya Bush is pushing the "Son of Star Wars" program ahead which will mean mutually assured destruction exists for every one except the US. Which isn't good! It means that USA can lauch nuclear weapons if they feel the need, with no fear of the repercussions.

And then there's the threat of minority terrorist groups who can't be retaliated against in the way an entire nation can be, but have the ability to cause large scale destruction if they put their minds to it...

Cheers. I agree with your point about the land and I know it goes a lot deeper than the strip of land but the consiquences of that land are enormous and what can happen from that are almost hard to think about. Also from that Nuclear missiles do enter the equation and with the current state of the two countries it does not look like they will ever back down. Thanks though Cyclone!

Good post. The trouble is 'all for a strip of alnd' is what it seems to us, but to others it is far more important - It really is a mess, and warfare is no longer about two armies meting - Its about small teams making huge differences with small opertaions and covert attacks.
