Well, Well, Well. Old Mr Lucas hasn't done too well this time has he? As you probably guessed, I recently watched Attack of the Clones at the cinema and was appalled that such a high end, multi-million dollar movie could be so bad! I didn’t really have high expectations before the film which normally means you enjoy it more-but not in this case. Firstly the script writing was SO bad! Cheesy doesn’t begin to describe it. Coupled with bad acting-the opening scenes with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen were on par with a school(infant)play, made a recipe for disaster from the start! The plot was slow and boring with a naf love story thats been done far better many times before. Fortunately it involved Natalie Portman for an incentive to watch. However- I’m not that harsh (honest), as an animator I was very impressed. As expected it was visually stunning and the best scene of the film has to be where they were put in the arena to meet there doom-good old Gladiator style(but somehow manage to escape). It was well choreographed and excellently animated. Certainly the most entertaining scene of the film, closely followed by Yoda going mental with a light sabre.
So yes, as you can tell I was greatly disappointed by Attack of the clones, George should know as well as anybody that visuals wont make up for a poor plot, and that with a script that bad even the best actors will struggle. I havn’t seen Phantom Menace yet and I certainly wont be rushing out to rent it. Come on George make the next one a bit more exciting throughout!

People have said the love story was rubbish, becasue compared to Han/Leias it was boring and slow paced, but this love story has a much much more profound meaning to it - Its where Luke and Leia come from, and how most fo the events in the 'first' three come about.

Natalie Portman is a definite incentive!

I disagree with you there on almost all accounts, as I personally think episode 2 is exactly what episode 1 should have been like.

I thought the acting was good, and it’s the first time I've actually liked one of Ewan McGregor performances, the rest of the actors weren't bad either. The story was much better this time around, concentrating more on Anikin's slow decent into the dark side as well as showing us more of how the empire was formed. So much better than the boring political plotline in episode 1.

There where more light sabre battles, less of the annoying jar jar binks character, more of R2-D2 and C3PO (my favourite characters from the first 3 films when I was younger), more recognisable characters such as a young Bobba Fett, and finally stormtroopers where added. Episode 2 had more recognisable features in from the first trilogy than episode 1 did; it feels more like star wars.

The one bad thing I'd say about the film is the use of special effects. While they where used to make some really impressive scenes such as the chase at the beginning of the film, the asteroid belt chase between obi wan and jango fett, the droid factory scene, and the huge fight at the end, I think they where used too much in other areas. Yoda for example was totally animated this time, meaning he didn't look as real as in the other star wars films. Impressive, but not necessary.

All in all, I think episode 2 is a great film, and everything I expected from Episode 1 and then some. I think the final film in this trilogy though; episode 3 will be the best. I hope it’s as good as this latest offering.
