So I sit down to watch, and I can't believe it. It is like the story was made for my life at the moment.
Some of you may remember my posts over the last few weeks, about me being in love with my best friend. It is not an ideal situation, as you can imagine. Well, in this film, Cusack (Eddie) and Zeta-Jones (Gwen) are the Cruise-Kidman couple. They are America's Sweethearts. But Gwen runs off to be with a Spanish actor. Eddie, after attempting to kill her, goes into a mental institute. (No link to my life yet - GL!)
Anyway, basically the story is based around their last movie they made together, Crystal plays Lee, trying to organise the press junket, and he needs the two of them together for the weekend to get it working.
Now, I just deleted the rest of the post I had written, because I realise that I had ruined the story for anyone who hasn't seen it. But basically I felt that the story was quite close to how I feel at the moment.
And that, (in possibly *the* most convoluted way ever) brings me to my point. Is it just me, or are films these days becoming more and more detached from reality? Is this for a reason? Do we not want to see films that somehow connect to us, or are we simply there to see lots of explosions.
That is why I like Cusack films so much, there is an honesty to his acting. Maybe I see a lot of me in him. You can easily imagine him being a "real" person in all of his films. HIs characters are close to real life, I don't mean the situation that the characters are in, but the way they deal with them.
Do we really not want to see films that tell life how it is anymore? Is that too much effort? I'd hope not. I want to see films that make me react to them. Of course, I still like to sit down and watch "easy-to-watch" films as well, but I want to see more of these as well.
Let me know what you think.

Sorry rambling there....if this manages to make any sense I apologise sincerely!
