Great thing to do when you are bored, but isn't it annoying!
Firstly we have that dreaded word, 'PING' Don't you just hate it? What else is funny about this is that having a large one is rather bad...
Modem users suffer the most from the dreaded PING, trying to play Quake 3 against my mate who has ADSL really was a rather annoying experience. He would shoot and instantly he would fire a bullet at me and kill me. Meanwhile, I would fire a bullet, by the time the information had reached the server, he had moved and I missed him. I hate being organised, having to plan your move half a second ahead really bores me...
Another thing that annoys me when I am playing online is stupid people who just can't take losing! Have you ever been playing Command and Conquer for about an hour building up a massive army and as soon as the opponent sees that you have a better army, they just quit the game!?
It just feels like you have wasted a whole hour just doing nothing, you have got to start all over again because some idiot decided to leave the game when they knew they were going to lose! When I am losing, I die with respect fighting to the death, I don't just scream and quit the game! Stupid wimps...
Next we have something we all like to be, but hate to play against, a cheat...
Playing a game of Quake the other day, I noticed that somebody was running rather fast and was jumping incredibly high. They were at the top of the leader board too, it wasn't until I shot them repeatedly with the BFG that I realised that they were cheating. How the hell am I meant to have fun when I am being killed continuously by this cheat? I know it is fun to play against a computer when you have got unlimited health and ammo on, but how annoying is it when somebody else cheats?!
I cannot wait until the day that online gaming really starts to take off, can you imagine playing a FPS and the bullets appear out of your gun straight away and not half a second later? Can you imagine just playing a normal person that is the same ability as you over the other side of the world? Playing your mates without having to invite them all over your house!
The ultimate online feature though, would be a method to ban the cheats and wimps from ever ruining my game! Just a normal friendly game of 'Kill Eachother' is what we need.
