Though i have gone back to playing my SNES and think (can games really be all about the GFX or is it the Games themselves). I've played a 2d RPG in Secret of Mana, and compared to the new Final Fantasy series the storyline and interaction in SOM may not seem as good as FF7,9, er the list goes on!
All this talk nowandays by gamers is 'is the Gamecube as powerful as the X-Box' or 'My Pc has 1.7ghz !' wow people may say but wake up people this is gaming we're talking about if a game looks good it has to be the same standard as the graphics.
Look at the up and coming games wow Doom 3 looks nice.... even Zelda on the Gamecube looks better than it's old predecessor (cartoony graphics yes but it plays like a dream) but can it live up to it's hype? Can it play as good as it looks?
In my opinion i think gamers shouldn't be talking about Technical specs no offence to people who think it's important to have the most up to date things but we should look at how a game plays.... that is why i play games because they are fun, they may look gorgeus but when it comes down to a decent game it's all about the Gameplay.
People who go on about specs on consoles i think you shouldn't criticise a console until you have actually given it a go the fact is some multi format games, on different consoles you may think it looks different but it is still the same game e.g. GTA 3 on the PC may look better than the one on the PS2 but who cares it keeps the core of the gameplay that made it such a blast on the PS2 (tho i haven't played it on the PS2 i am critising a game being a PC guy)
I look forward to getting a GC (hmmm how many mhz?) and maybe a PC upgrade (yes with a Geforce 3 or woteva they call them)but that doesn't decline me from enjoying what i have at the moment.
Let's be a community that doesn't overlook gameplay and think about graphics. And i really hope the people making games such as Zelda, Halo, UT, Half life, Metal gear to make a good balance of gameplay and great looks to give the gamer a treat.
Have fun reading i hope, havent done this in a while :o
As I wrote in my topic and Liquid H20 also commented (look below in the main list!) bloody games are really starting to influence people more. The more gore a game has, the better it sells.
Even Worms World Party has a blood splattering option!
"Zelda being Cel shaded has really put me off"
that is a bad comment. No offense to savatt, but he's never played the game, has no idea how it WILL play, has probably only seen a meager few stills on which to base his opinion, and just because it's cel shaded, he is put off.
Personally, I couldn't care less how cartoony a game looks, or otherwise. If i did, I wouldn't own games like monkeyball or SSBM. If I cared about graphics, I wouldn't have bought Elite on my NES all those years ago.
Gameplay is dying because people would rather play a pretty game than a good one, and that makes me sad.

I think that I can speak for all Nintendo owners when I say we want both graphics AND gameplay.
But if I had to choose between the two, it would be gameplay.
That's why I'd choose Monkey Ball over Rogue Leader (not that Rogue Leader has BAD gameplay, just not as good as Monkey Ball, if you see what I'm saying - just like Monkey Ball's graphics are good, but not on par with Rogue Leader).
I'm mainly hoping that this extra power will be used to expand multiplayer games, both online and splitscreen, with plenty of AI bots and NO MORE SLOWDOWN.
Perfect Dark on the N64 was really let down by frame rate problems.
