I was talking with a friend and he said one thing which I always here every week from many people. He said "I hate the fact we have to wait for games! It's really boring and annoying." I stood there and thought about it for a while and realised this would be a great topic for gameaday, so thanks to that friend for inspiring me. Before a game has been released there is the whole developing stuff and more stuff that takes time. Not including the fact that we get most stuff in the UK a lot later than USA and Japan. The natural instinct for most people is to moan and groan and get really angry. Heck, some of you may go and import games since you cannot wait. Not saying it's stupid or anything. This will then cost a lot of money and get you even more angry. But I feel that waiting for games isn't perhaps a bad thing. Do you think this too? Well whether you do or not it read on.
Firstly and probably the most obvious of all is the fact that having to wait gives us time to play games that we already own or are out now. If you can't wait then buy a game there and then. Waiting for games gives you the chance to buy and try new games. It widens your range of gaming knowledge and ability. Not enough you say. Well.
How about the fact that waiting for a game gives you a goal. What am I on about you say? Well lets say for example, that you have to go to you boring book club (bad example I know) and you don't want to do it but you must. The game can be a goal. You can think to yourself "After this I get Pikmin and all this will be worth it." Bit corny I know but it's true.
Next up woul be the fact that all the waiting adds to the excitement. No this is not like waiting for a bus. It's like you're uncovering a mystery. Looking at the new pictures and movies is all great fun. It alos helps let your mind think freely about how the game will play and will it be better than you think. As you can see, looking at the pictures is cool. E3 wouldn't be here if we had the games immediately and E3 is a great event.
Another good thing about waiting, and this is good for us kids with hardly any money, is that it gives us the chance to save up our money and buy what we are waiting for. Not to mention it also gives us the time to play our current games.
One other reason is that waiting also gives the developers the time to make the game perfect. We don't want a game that has been rushed towards the end for a sake of a few weeks do we? We don't want Luigi's Mansion with the rooms containing about 2 objects. It's stupid.
There may be more reasons for and against waiting, but personally I don't mind waiting for games or consoles. I think it adds to part of the game. If we didn't have the waiting period then there would be something missing from the game. Overall I hope you've enjoyed this topic as I tried to come up with something interesting and funnyish. Remember don't get angry because a game takes a while to be released, just try to see the bright side of it like I do.
Thanks for reading and keep on waiting in that queue to gaming. You'll get there... Eventually.
> Did anyone mind waiting for the Gamecube. It was well worth it I think
Have to agree with you there, it was a long wait but it was definetly worth the feeling I got when I turned on Rogue Leader (my pad went a bit irratic and vibrated a whole funk load) :D
I wrote something on the same lines to this the other day. It's called 'Cycle of Gameplay' in the PS1-2 forum. Feel free to read it if you like.
:D
