Well I'm back in the world of GTA3 having taken an extended vacation by flogging my PS2.
And it's good to be back.
I know IB doesn't like this game, but he's clearly mental.

Remember the endless posts here from everyone about this game when it first came out?
Even Snuggly got in on the act eventually.
I'd forgotten just how good this game is.
And the PC version urinates on the PS2 from a great height. Why?
Vastly improved graphics (although yer gonna need a monster system to run it well. I have 1.2 Athlon proc, 64mb video card and 256mb and it still stuttered on 1025x768 32 bit colour, but turn of frame sync and it's fine)
You can add your own MP3s for "Radio MP3 station" and by hitting F1 you get a reply of the last 30 seconds with controllable camera.

There are some differences that are difficult to get used to though.
The shooting isn't auto-lock, you use the mouse so it's tricky to blast policemen in the head at first, and driving seems odd using keys or mouse, but you can customise or use a joypad if you prefer.

But mainly, I'd completely forgotten the joys of total freedom in Libery City.
I've spent the past hour just nicking vans and totalling them, stealing the Garbage trucks, flatbeds...everything I ever loved about GTA3 but forgot.
And lordy are the graphics ever sweet if you can boost the options up, even with a new skin for the main guy. Now he can have a big 70s moustache and a nice shirt.
It rocks.
Once I've gotten used to the occasional frame-rate drop with everything ramped up and once I can steer the damn thing, I'll be going right back to committing wanton acts of carnage and bad driving.

GTA3 on the PC.
Verdict?
It's a different experience, a couple of little "mehs" to do with steering and shooting, but I'll learn 'em good and once more rule the underworld.

Oh, and try the "ilovethescottish" cheat.

GTA3 is one of the only games I've actually enjoyed playing on the PS2. Pity Rockstar didn't do so well with State of Emergency...

I am thinking of getting the PC version when I build up enough cash, just don't know when that'll be as I am still saving for a GameCube but I've heard some very good things about GTA3 on PC.
