Since games like Tombraider, I was fascinated with the use of console powered animations to enhance story lines.

Now we have machines like the Xbox which boast developers can creatively design games that no other console could handle.

The use of Pixel shading, vertex lighting and the programmable GPU have indeed made games look more realistic and exciting to most games. Yet I see a large potential for the machine missing.

In my mind the power of the Xbox could also be used for something more then just playing. I imagine a new console world where a standard of computer generated animation could be used for entertainment and marketing.

Imagine putting in your new demo disk, and finding short 5 minute animations, advertisements all in 3D using the power of the console where you could interact with the product and look at it from unrestricted 3D views.

Interaction with a new world where 3D brings to life stories once that could only be imagined in the story tellers mind can explode into our living rooms. Short 3D animations have always been about since the very first with the famous lamps displayed as having emotion (PIXAR). We can download 3D short animations, but limited by internet speeds and low resolution video, the detailing is lost and therefore the interest disappears.

I remember the interest of NVIDIA graphics cards. Statistics are no longer enough, and technology demos are constantly created to show off what new levels of graphical excellence are now achievable.

As I see it the Xbox and future consoles open a new window in entertainment. Interactive, detailed, imaginative, and awe inspiring creativity. Games are not the only thing Xbox could be used for. It could be so much more…

Be good if things like footage from E3, etc could be added on as well so you can see games up and running. :-)

Now movie trailers on game discs would be cool.

Well that's fine. As long as they are connected to gaming. But once it started I could imagine loads of non-gaming related products finding their way in - which would be annoying.

I'm not sure that I'd want my game discs to be littered with advertisements - [if that's what you mean].

But having said that, if what was being advertised were products solely connected to gaming, then I suppose it would be interesting to interactive and analyze something in 3D.
