Well, I am sure most of you are aware they are re-releasing the 'God Save The Queen' single for her majestys jubilee, but should you buy it? Assuming you like the song there is still the question of whether it is actually worth it? Back in the 70's it may have been a rebellious anthemn, but I think now it may have lost its punch.

Why? Certainly not because of the music itself. It is still as good as ever, despite the fact that it wouldn't be 'cool' to buy it now. It may have lost it's punch because of the Pistols now. Recently Johnny Rotton was on Richard and Judy telling them how he doesn't hate the Monarchy and how he thinks the royalty are good for bringing tourism to the British Isles. The Pistols have done a fair few shows here and there and they are performing sometime during the Jubilee, not sure of the exact date, but I think it's in London. And for £32.50 I think. WHAT?!? Over £30 to see one band? Now I know many groups charge this and much more to see them perform live, but we're talking the Sex Pistols! They are (or were...) supposed to be a punk band. Whatever you define as 'punk' it's not very punk to charge your fans over £30 to see you play, especially since it's in London, so it's not like they have to pay plane fares etc. even though I'm sure they could afford it. The pistols are also releasing a 'jubilee special' box set CD... some people might see this as a cash in.

Now this may not exactly be relevant to the music itself, but if you're just going to be thinking of Johnny on Richard and Judy defending the Queen every time you hear the song I don't think it would have the same kind of punch to it. PLus I think the B-sides are some crappy dance remixes... what the hell is that about?!?

The only other dissenting song released for the jubilee is going to be Billy Bragg's 'Take Down The Union Jack' which is pretty good, but kind of slow for my liking. Someone should really do a good cover of 'God Save the Queen' keeping it faithful, but still adding a bit of their own flair to it. Heh, I can imagine Capdown doing it, with their Ska'dcore beats...

Ah well, what do you think?

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
