The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
So we thought, although undoubtedly many of us were in bed when the final calculations were made by Your Honour on the unofficial thread. However, by now, we all know the results, and yes we now have two new notables in the FOG. Yes, two. Pro Evo and SonicRav are the people we now have to respect, and acknowledge as our superiors. They have gained the utmost status in the FOG, as a notable.
Now may be a time to reflect, on what exactly a notable is, and why some people should and some people should not be FOG notables. I have devised my own definition of what a notable is, to me:
'A notable is a member of the forums with vast experience of gaming and the FOG in general, and has made constant outstanding contribution that makes them an asset to the FOG, and improves the FOG as an entity'
From what I have experienced, each notable on the forum has exceeded this definition in their own way. Grix for his awkward sense of humour, Goatboy for his sheer gaming knowledge, and er-no, pb, and Ant for amazing literary contributions, to name but a few. Every three months the FOG elects a new notable, and this quarter the elections have gave rise to two new notables. To me, SonicRav and Pro Evo are worthy of the notable status. They bring something original to the forums, which only they can provide. I think we can all agree, that we have made a good decision between us.
In retrospect, there are also many other contributors to the FOG that I think, deserve to be notables. However, as time continues, they should get the status they deserve too.
To be a notable in the FOG attracts the same response among the FOG that an MBE may have on the outside world. This is quite an honour, and not one that should perhaps be taken lightly. I myself, as a newbie, look to the forum notables as a source of inspiration, and sometimes for answers. They possess a responsibility to those of lower rank to them in the forum, and they exercise it with flair and skill. I would like to take this moment to congratulate Pro Evo and SonicRav, and wish them all the best in their new position.
In conclusion, the election was an overall success. I must however stress that some of the voting appeared to be a little erroneous. I noticed myself that there were a few names on the voting ballot that I have never encountered before in the FOG. This practice needs to be avoided, and my advice is, unless you care, don't vote. Random or poorly based votes can swing the voting from a deserving candidate. Thankfully though, this didn't occur, and we have two deserving notables.
The aftermath of the big vote is always aesthetic. Some feel deprived, most feel lucky and privileged. Two get their name printed in gold. Well Done.
Storm in a tea cup comes to mind.

Personally, I think what should have been a fun occasion - and one which both of those elected could enjoy - has been completely ruined.
There are some pretty astounding accusations being levelled at users of the Sony forum - of which I am one - and everyone seems to be going way over the top on the whole thing.
It was *suggested* that people in the Sony forum vote for "one of their own", but that's not a bad thing. I myself suggested prior to the last election that they all consider voting for ssxpro - but they didn't do it, did they?
I think the terminology used has a lot to do with it. I think "let's vote one of ours" was a very bad choice of wording. As I've said elsewhere, the term "FOG Notables" went out of the window a long time ago. I believe that all that has been done is that they have voted - as instructed - for a person who makes the forums (note use of the plural) a place that they like to visit.
And I say YET AGAIN - I was in the same position as Pro Evo when I was elected, and there were no such comments about my election. Would someone PLEASE care to explain to me why this is?
Finally - and this is NOT a threat, nor is it in any way me getting high and mighty and thinking I'm in any way special or better than anyone else - but if Pro Evo should feel hounded enough to give up his Notable status, then I will do the same. As I said, we were both in the same situation when elected, and if he's not worthy of it, then neither am I.
