You have 2 shotgun shells left, you can hear a licker just around the corner, your seriously injured - your limping with an open wound leaving a trail of blood the zombie hordes will obviously be able to follow. You heart rate is pounding, you know that you need to hit the licker ith both shotgun shells to kill him, if not you'll be forced to rely on yor small handgun, which against a licker is like attacking a rhino with a toothpick. You slowly creep around the corner hoping to catch the creature unaware, you approach the corner, you take a deep breath before turning the corner and confronting your fate, you picture what you have to do in your head - turn, shoot twice, move quickly - gameplan sorted, you lean against a boarded up window and prepare to move - CRASH! - BANG! - A zombie burst through the boarded up window, in shock you accidentally let a shot off, you dealt with the zombie but the licker heard it and you know hes approaching you - you with your lone shotgun shell - your heart rate now is pounding, sweat is building up on your forehead, you feel a droplet being formed, you decide to go for it, you run around the corner, level the licker with your shotgun, he gets back up, you unload on him with your handgun - and luckily there was enough distance between the two of you, to allow you to land the required number of shots - the licker falls into a gory mass of evil on the floor, your heartrate slows back down, you feel relieved, you wipe the nearly formed bead of sweat off your forehead, then SCHLAPP! - Your dead, there wasnt only one licker around the corner, but two. You are shocked - YOU DIED!

At least you did in your head, in reality you are sitting there in your room safe from harm, playing Resident Evil 2 on your Playstation 2, seeing how the PS2 enhances the games graphics, but in your mind you are in Racoon City fighting the zombie and demon hordes, the characters involved dont really matter - its really you in there trying to save the city from the undead masses. Physically it was as if you were there - it was you who felt nervous before taking the corner, it was your heart that was pounding, it was you who jumped a mile when the zombie burst through the window and it was your forehead that had the sweat beads forming on it - you felt as if you were there - you were not in this reality, but rather in the artificially created reality of the game - how does this make you feel? Thrilled.

In everyday life you dont really see hideous monstosities come hobling towards you, so this is a break from reality, but physially you felt all the symptoms of being there, so just how detatched from reality are you - you obviously felt that you were in something of a realistic enviroment or you wouldnt have reacted the way you did, so what reality were you in? You were in a state of suspended reality - a suspended reality created by the game, everything seems realistic and fits in within the game world, its ok that your running about with a shotgun blowing the heads off zombies, thats what the rules of the game dictate.

But what would happen if somebody took the schema of rules of the game and applied them to the real world, the results could be hideous, attrocities all around the world HAVE happened and the mass media will have you believe because people lose touch with the REAL world (that has been artificially created by the media in which people dont go around killing people - they work hard and give all their money to big conglomerates who dont need the money) and act as if their in some other reality - be it a reality created by Music, Films or Games - all can evoke emotional responses that can lead you to lose touch with their world. How long can it be until games come under attack in the same way as so called 'video nasties' such as Childs Play 3 and Hellraiser, or Rock Music such as Marilyn Manson or The Insane Clown Posse, what possible difference can it be between the violent actions videogames encourage and the violent responses music or films can evoke - the answer is simple you manipulate the game - YOU have control.

With the Jamie Bulger Murder, the media blamed Childs Play 3, which had a similar incident in it, the murderers had watched the film and copied it, their defense claimed they couldnt tell the difference between the reality of the film and the real world, well the next time I see a psychopathic talking doll Ill let you all know. And with the Columbine high school Massacre Rock Music such as Marilyn Manson and Insane Clown Posse were blamed, because violent lyrics in their songs supposedly encouraged violence, couldnt the Murderer tell that the music is a product artificially created to fufill a purpose, in this case to cause controversy, and again I dont see too many people dressed as clowns or wearing face paints in my everyday life - and if I did I wouldnt take them seriously.

So Im here to ask you all, Do you know the differenvce between the reality of the game and the artificially created real world we all live in?
