I made my first banner today, and I'm so proud of it that I want my visitors to be able to watch the animation whenever they choose.

You can gawp at it yourself at http://www.gameboyinthedark.co.uk/banner.html

My question is: how can I restart the animated gif when someone clicks on it? Probably ridiculously simple, but let's try to remember that I'm new to this web design malarkey.

Thanks Nimco.

Amazingly, having uploaded the page again (not to my freeola space because of the whole broadband thing) the original Dreamweaver code is now working with all three of my test browsers. I haven't tried anything below Netscape 6.2: frankly the luddites will just have to suffer.

Still, that code isn't very elegant: I'll try your slimline version sometime tonight.

The masterpiece, meanwhile, is online at http://ds.dial.pipex.com/town/green/ylt63/banner.html

OK, this script below works in IE6, NS6, and Opera 6.

OK, this code does the same as your current one, and still does not support netscape. it is however a lot shorter:

OK, thanks to the wonders of Dreamweaver I have a javascript that reruns the animation when the mouse is over it. But this works only in Internet Explorer and Opera, not Netscape. I thought Dreamweaver 4.01 was supposed to generate compliant code for this sort of thing, but apparently not.

Anyone want to check my source code, and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Trouble is I'm not sure I want to subject people to having to watch the thing over and over again. The rollover thing does sound good, though: I'll see if I can figure it out.

I have no idea.

But what about something that just replaces the animation with the animation again (like rollovers) dose that make sence?

Wouldnt it be better to have it pause at the end and then loop? Thats just done with the gif software, and would probably work better than clicking on it, when people click a banner they usually want to be taken to a new page.
