....Cybernet last nite? It had a feature on a new type of CD in development. Aparrentley it uses 2 dimensions instead of just one (or something like that), which allows it to store massive amounts of data. They quoted that It was expected to be able to contain up to 1 MILLION Giggabytes of data!! Or 100 full feature films!!

I swear to god I'm not makin this up either. I've been trying to find out some more info on it, but I can't seem to find any. I think Cybernet's repeated sometime this week though, so watch it and you'll see what I'm talkin about.

They said The CD wouldn't be ready for at least 2 years though, but I can't wait till it's available - think about how massive programmers will be able to make their games! And being able to buy compilation CDs with 100 full feature films on it!

While it might not be technically feasible until 2 years, I'm not so sure it'll be commercially feasible ever for a storage medium like that to be used for entertainment. Perhaps for games, which could make use of that space (with the trade-off of rising production costs), but I wouldn't have thought for passive entertainment (music, films etc.), for the simple reason that the copyright owners would lose out. Going on the basis that a DVD is currently 15-20 quid, how much do you think a 100 film disc would cost? £60, £80, £100?
I can't see Johnny Massmarket going for that, especially seeing as he's only recently shelled out for his DVD player.

Should be a technology that'll be snapped up by the pirates in no time though.

hmm, that may well be it Aliboy. It looked a bit different on Cybernet (but thats probably coz they dumbed it down so dunces like me could understand it!).

Thanx Aliboy.

Damn, I can't find their website either. I'll get their e-mail next time the program is on, and ask them for more details (and what it's called)

I don't think so. It showed a cortoon kinda simulation of it and a beam kinda went into the CD then bounced of a little reflector thingy (stop me if this is getting to technical :)) and went off in another direction into the CD. It's kinda hard to explain.

Was it holographic memory? I didn't see the program, in fact have never heard of it before but sound like the 2 dimensional memory could be holographic memory.
