Trippin' the light fantastic in computerized innerspace.
Sound weird?
Then welcome to the peculiar and mind-boggling universe of Rez.

Rez is unlike anything I've played before.
It's one of those games that you have to play first-hand in order to understand it fully.

The game puts you in the body of a virus-destroying endorphin machine named "Rez" which has six levels of material being - from a spinning silver sphere, to a metallic humanoid, to a black orb inside pulsing rays.

The purpose of the game is to venture into cyberspace and save a mysterious entity called "eden".
This is achieved by blasting a myriad of strange lifeforms and machines along a predetermined path.

But what makes Rez truly stand out from the crowd is the visuals and the audio, and the way these two aspects combine to make an original gaming experience.

The makers of the game (UGA/SEGA) describe this by using the term "Synaesthesia" - which means "the sensation felt in a part of the body other than the part stimulated".
Whether this is relevant is debateable, but what I will say is that the way the visuals, sound/music and controller vibrations combine during the flow of the game is something really special, addictive and unique.

The shooting in Rez utilizes a lock-on system, and when each enemy is targeted and destroyed it makes a sound.
If you shoot down several enemies at once in a combo, their destruction makes a different sound.
The more enemies you eradicate in one lock-on attack, the more power-ups and points you acquire.
All this combined with the colourful and futuristics graphics and the excellent ever-building soundtrack makes for a mesmerizing and hypnotic blasting extravaganza.

Rez is without doubt one of my favourite games ever.
The trancey euphoric music, the quirky sound FX and the lavish psychedelic visuals all interlace to create a fantastic one-off game.

Everything about Rez is different: the way it looks, the ways it sounds, and the way it plays.

It's like a finger pointing to a new genre......
