About a year ago, my Dreamcast went and did the worst possible thing to me- a fate that no man deserves- stopped working. The problem was that my DC didn't respond to my controllers- which kind of cheesed me off because I was nearly level 100 on Phantasy Star Online. Grrr... I have had the DC seen to lately and all is well. Now here comes the 'but'- BUT lately the same thing has happened to my friend. Are we the only ones? Is it a common problem among Dreamcasts? Or is Walsall a naff place to live? I would appreciate any help before I am forced to eat myself starting from my elbow. Thank you. (Chomp chomp chomp)

illzen, Im swear that the liquid cooling was only used on the original Japanese DC consoles? Or maybe that was just for the CPU?

Either way, it left the West with the annoyingly loud fan booming away during gaming!

Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it. Of course, it could have absolutely nothing to do with the fact I've been playing Phantasy Star Online Ver.2 for over 650 hours now...

yes indeed, Dan, you are experiencing the most regular of all DC breakdowns. I've had controller ports freeze up twice before. Basically, there's a kind of liquid cooling system for the controller ports that was used on earlier dreamcasts. If you play for too long, you can run the risk of overheating it all... until it goes phhhhhhht... whir...stop.

Worry not though, it's clearly Sega's fault and they are obliged to sort you out with a fresh one.

are you using arcade sticks? if so that could be the problem as the sticks can blow one of the fuses on the controller board.

Must be Walsall.. lol, only kidding. I think Dc is the most reliable console built, cos I have heard of no one with any problems. Mine works fine, if it stops working then get a refund! You deserve it!
