The Vectrex was a sort of black cube with vector graphics. It had no colour. The user had to add the colour by sticking colour cards over the top of the screen. I owned one but have yet to come across anyone else who also had one. Was I the only mug to pay over £100 for this thing ?
i think ive lost most of my little plastic screens so its not much fun just looking at the little lines...
It was okay in its time but i dont really rate it much anymore as it really doesnt compare to anything modern now does it? but if you like that kind of thing i dont blame you!
There are a number of reasons;
1. It is a beautiful machine just to look at, even before you've turned it on
2. The vector based graphics are unique on a home system and allow some breathtaking effects
3. The control system is fantastic
4. There are some great games for it
5. There are some extremely rare accessories for it that some collectors would sell their grandmothers for, ie the lightpen and even more so, the 3D Imager.
Yes, this system really rocks!
Cheers,
Richard
PS: Systems were changing hands for about #200 to #300 a time, about 4 years back, but although they are rare, they are not -that- rare. Current collectors prices have settled to about £60 to £80 for an unboxed machine with controller in good working order. Of course, if you're really really lucky you might find one at a boot sale one day :)
