Who can remember back in the 80's waiting years and years for International Soccer to be released on the Commodore 64 ?. When the game finally arrived it was toilet. What about 'Matchday' on the Spectrum ?.

Championship Manaer 00/01 is out now - so let's debate the best footie game ever.

I think Sensible Soccer (Amiga) was fantastic.

I played Sensible Soccer on the PC and it WAS excellent. Did anyone play the re-make for the Playstation? I borrowed it off a friend and tried to give it him back because of how rubbish it was. But he wouldn't take it...i still have it now, 2 years later.

Anyway...i think that 'This is Football is a really good football game, and Ultimate Soccer manager is the best managing game. It is simple to understand and not too easy, makes a nice change from the dullness of Champ manager.

Ok, typing this makes me feel really old, but I always liked Football director on the good old Specky. I loved that game so much. And it was so much easier to play than the games of today (oh my God am I going grey?). The players were rated by a number 1-10, none of this differant stats for passing, shooting and making the tea. You could even make your stadium bigger, buy and sell on the stock market and train your players using a massive four options!!! Looking back there was zero depth in this game, but it had more playability than any other game I can remember. In later years (enter the Amiga500) I really enjoyed the likes of Sensi Soccer V1.1, The Manager (Much like Football Director but with correct names for players), Premier Manager (1+2, the third got too complicated and took to long to play games!) and, last and probably least, Kick Off. More recently I've enjoyed Champ Manager '97/98, Sega Wolrd Wide Soccer and ISS64. Which of these is the best I don't know, but if I could only play one of them again, I'd have to stick to Football Director on the Spectrum, Might be the best game of any kind I've ever played. I played the sequel once, on the good old PC 486, I just wish they'd released the original game on the format, coz they took away everything that made the game great. Even today everytime I hear a beeb I think of Transfers. Ooooo...

I have to agree about Sensible Soccer. That was and still is the best football game ever made. I use to like the Kick Off games on the Amiga before Sensi Soccer, and remember having one game called Man Utd Europe. This was a fine looking game but that was the only plus point about it.
Back in the early eighties, had a game on the Amstrad 464 called Football Manager (quite an original name). This was so addictive but it took me about four months to get from Division 4 to the old Division 1. Then they released a sequel and somehow managed to destroy all that was good about the previous.
Now I think we are being taken for a ride with the FIFA series. Every year they release the same thing over and over again. I seem to keep slagging of the FIFA games but I really believe that EA cannot make football games.
The ISS games will be the ones to play until they release the best football game ever, something that Sega have planned apparently.
