War, or violence between tribes has been a part of human life, since the birth of humans. Although this was only a minor scale it is still violence, which could be avoided.
Since then wars have changed dramatically, technology has moved on, weapons have advanced into incredible killing machines. Mans weapons in war has evolved from; swords and shields, to muskets and canons, and now we have bombs and nuclear warfare.
In 1066 at the battle of Hastings, there were roughly seven thousand men on either side, then there was no such thing as strategies, it was just attack! Attack! Attack!!
In the English civil war the armies had order and strategies, although these wars seemed more like a game of chess than a war. The armies lined up in rows from front to back, the higher your rank the further back you were, thus making you safer, however if you were a farm boy who was forced to come and fight with a spade you had a very large possibility of getting shot in the back by a lead ball fired from your own sides riflemen.
Oliver Cromwell led the parliamentary army out to all of their battles, he didn’t just do this he got onto a horse and got into the thick of it.
Today all the leader is sit in a room with his advisors and a cup of tea planning an attack. Instead of having seven thousand men on either side it more than seven million, and orders aren’t just attack anymore, there are many different stages in planning an attack.
In World War 2 the Nazis tortured, abused and gassed eleven million Jews in five years, what was the point of this mad behaviour? Some people would say they were possessed or just pure evil. In fact many Nazis deeply regret killing the Jewish people; one man said:
“I was scared, I had to follow orders, if I didn’t I would have been shot.”
This mans first hand evidence shows how evil Hitler really was.
With technology improving all through the war it was a race against to build the first nuclear bomb. As you all know the Americans built the first nuclear bomb; and dropped it on Hiroshima Japan. People still have gene defects because of the gasses from these bombs.
Two bombs can and have destroyed the life of one city. All of this evolved from early man fighting over food, and with technology getting better every day can we ever be safe from war? Can we do anything to prevent our future generations from going through it, but with people like Osama Bin Laden around nowhere can ever be safe?
The U.N. (United Nations) shows the linkage between countries, but some countries don’t want to be united with other countries. It is often these countries who start war.
