Should be fine if you're using them on the same PC you installed with. The issue is registry entries and other installation files for windows. There are *dodgy* versions around that allow you to write registry entries just by clicking a file, but it still involves some files being installed on the PC then.

Portableapps have come along way, and is currently really good, but you are still fairly limited to what you can actually use.
