Looking at my three shelves of PC Game boxes, its very clear to me that i have amassed quite a sizable collection. But what really strikes me is that it is a real, tangible collection full of large, brightly coloured boxes, most larger than some books i`ve got!. So it was with mixed feeling that i read about the new industry standard DVD case coming to the world of the PC Game. I say mixed because although i can see the benefits of using the newer, slimline and compact cases, it saddens me to think my shelf will now consist of rows of samey-looking cases, hardly warranting the term "collection" set against the their larger cousins. Worse still, we are told that even with recycled materials the card boxes are expensive to use and that the DVD cases are cheaper. However, if this is the case then surely the price should be lower? No - it isn`t, just look even on the Special Reserve site and you`ll see the price is over £30 for RED ALERT 2 (a game being sold in a DVD case) compared to TIBERIAN SUN`S (card box) price when it was released last year which came UNDER £30!!!. Someone somewhere is taking us, the paying public, for a ride... (This is not a dig at Retailers, they do not fix the prices)
Does anyone else think that DVD cases are a good thing or a bad thing?
Let the debate begin . . . !!!!

Well DVD boxes would cost alot less, then boxes. Nut boxes look great with their designs, Red Alert 2 looked the odd one out in my local EB.
DVD's look oddly plain and boring, compared to the old boxes. What i would like to see is CD Roms turning into DVD discs.
Also Boxes, are more bulkier than most boxes, used for games, ie N64 games. Glass covers are completely rubbish, they crack very easily and the PS boxes look crap.

I can't stand the cases the DVD's are in. Espescially the movies as you have to press that stupid little button in the middle to make them pop out of their case. And that little button sure does annoy me.....
