It depends what sort of shoot-em-up we're talking about here.
If we're talking about something like Lylat Wars, or X-Com Interceptor, then I wouldn't get bored too easily as there is quite a lot of variation.
Something like House Of The Dead or Silent Scope though, quicky becomes boring when you realise that all you're doing is point and shoot.
