Call me a bit slow, but I've only just seen this. It was weird, damn good but weird.

Shame I'd only borrowed it, have to see if I can find somewhere to buy it now.

Er, discuss. Or something.

Fair enough. But I have to say, I didn't think it was actually *that* violent. But I guess things were different back in the '70s.

Damn fine film though, I'm to see if I can find it on DVD anywhere to buy...

It was all to do with the usual tabloid crap.
The film was released, The Daily Mail etc started their "Sick Filth!" campaign they trot out every 3 months.
It was blamed for football hooliganism etc and endless "Is Kubrick sick?" stories.

So Kubrick decided he wouldn't allow it to be released until people grew up and realised it was just a film.

I still remember seeing A Clockwork Orange about 10 years ago when it was still banned. My uncle had a rather rough pirate copy of it, and my dad let me & my brother watch it (I was only about 12 at the time--that's what you call responsible parenting! He also bought me Robocop on video when it came out!...But it's never done me any harm...gurrgle, slurp, *smacks nervous twitch*)

Lashings of the old ultraviolence & plenty of Ludwig Van.

I really could do with watching again straight away, it took me about half the film to understand what they were saying.

Not sure why Kubrick didn't want it released over here though...

I liked it a lot.
Which is rare for a Kubrick film, usually they look nice etc but crawl along at a stately pace and annoy me.

Malcolm McDowell was excellent, and he scratched his eyes during the rehabilitation phase seeing as Kubrick shot it most of the day.
Good film.

This film never really appealed to me. It's been my experience that when someone says "highly controversial film" they mean "load of crap"
