I know an insider who was told at the beginning of filming for Episode II (and likely well before that) that the ending for Episode III had already been worked out, and had actually already been filmed. Lucas even alluded to it in one of the little featurettes online at Starwars.com.
Though I don't know how they get to where they are, apparantly the last scene has Obi-Wan taking baby Luke to Beru and Owen on Tatooine, apologizing for having to do so, and then as the music swells, he heads off into the desert, and the end credits roll.
An interviewer asked Lucas, "George, Why are you shooting a shot for EPISODE III?" Lucas replies, "I can't tell you that. You'll have to wait 6 years for that answer." The interviewer goes on to ask,"How much stuff are you doing for EPISODE III now?" Lucas says, "Just this one shot."
Nonetheless, I really like this rumor and it's going to be really interesting to see if it comes true. I like the idea of EPISODE III ending this way. It just seems so right to me - ending on Tatooine in III and then picking right back up there in IV.

Apparently, the most dramatic scene in the 3rd movie will be the massive showdown and lightsabre fight between Obi Wan and Anakin. This battle ends with Anakin falling into a volcano/acid thing, hence his disfiguration when he becomes Darth Vader...
But enough about episode 3, i'm yet to see episode 2 (well, until the weekend anyway!)
Thanks for Reading.
Was it just me, or did he say 6 YEARS before Episode 3 comes out?? Ep 1 took 2 years, Ep 2 took 3 years, but 6? Must be all the CGI they're planning on putting in
Apparently right, Annakin turns into Darth Vader!
And his kids don't know that he's their dad!
