Summers looming, which means a lot of free time, and what better way to fill your free time than games, you can pick up and play and can stop straight away if something comes up, but this summer there seems to be a slight problem - where are all the games?

Im an oh so proud owner of a PS2, and looking at the list of games out over the summer Im not sure if its anything to be proud of, Virtua Fighters just come out - which quite frankly doesnt interest me in the slightest - all previous Virtua Fighter games have been clunky and boring - having played them all on my Brothers Saturn and Dreamcast - I find it hard to see how they can have such a die hard fanbase. Tekken 4, the latest in the finest beat em up saga ever may I add, has been delayed until september, and so the only major game of the summer is the almighty Final Fantasy X, which by all accounts looks amazing and if it has a storyline a tenth as good as the previous games should make for an amazing experience - but oh what a commitment it'll make - with Final Fantasy 7 I remember spending two weeks of the holidays getting so far into the game, then starting over again this time with a guide, after realising that I had missed out on so much just playing through it, and even when you get to the end of the game, you dont want to complete it, you want to keep playing to ensure youve seen everything and got everything as good as you can - a major task - and something that someone as lazy as me couldnt be bothered to do, so out came the Xplorer and everthing was got - but I still wanted to get everthing the normal way to see where the story lead, and although the task is a lot easier when everyone is equipped with master materia, but still takes absolutely ages, and you'll find yourself starting playing as soon as you wake up and eventually turning it off when your eyes start to fail you and you realise that it 2AM. But is it worth it - definately.

Then there X Box, which I can not see the advantage of, so far there havent been any games that look any good for it - and ask the average person and the only game thay can even suggest is Halo, so wheres the extensive line up of quality software - as yoda would say, great the number of games is, but better the quality should be. Any X Box owners out there please Im begging you to tell me - since when did technical specifications make a console great - its always been about the games and X Box doesnt have them.

Then comes the GameCube which I hate to have to admit it, but seems to have the best summer line up of new releases - From the amazing Rogue Leader, to Smash Brothers Melee, to the latest resident evil game, it seems to have games for all ages, some that are great multi player games, games that you can pick up and play for a quick burst as well as immersing games that you can lose yourself in.

So this summer what the overall outlook - definately bright for PS2 and GameCube, PS2 has a back catalogue of great games that are becoming cheaper and cheaper every week, as well as a number of classic ps1 games - Final fantasy 8 + 9 are both now under £20 each so theres no excuse not to own them. Shame that there arent too many new games truly worth getting. GameCube has possibly the best line up of games so shortly after it launch that any console has ever had. However dark clouds will be looming over the X Box, without a killer app it looks doomed - Halo alone is not worth £250, but each to their own. This summer has enough variety to appeal to anyone, its maybe not the best summer for games ever, but with a slew of great movies out soon, some great games and the world cup, summer seems to be looking pretty good already, and Im sure will be enough to content anyone.

Jiminy McFlink, you criping cuftsnortler.

Stop yer whinging, and go and buy a GBA. Gear yourself up with Advance Wars, some Zelda, maybe Sonic, maybe Golden Sun, and go down the park/beer garden.

That's what I call summer gaming.

How many more times must I read this bullsh*t!

Jet Set Radio Future
Project Gotham Racing
Halo
Dead or Alive 3
Championship Manager
Max Payne

Not bad for a console that's only been on the shelves for 7 weeks.

But a new console is always about the future, and every console needs 12 to 18 months before it can be judged.
