Unsurprisingly, demand was high for the little cube of love across Europe - we love Nintendo just as much as Davey USA or Jimmy Japan. For once, UK gamers actually got a good deal (apart from the several months of waiting), and got a low launch price of £129.99. According to Nintendo, over 400,000 units were shipped to Europe within the first week of the May 3rd launch date.
"This has been a phenomenal week for Nintendo and we are delighted at the initial reaction to GameCube," said Nintendo Europe MD David Gosen. "We have always said that success will be determined by great games, and after launch week, over 400,000 gamers are being thrilled by the GameCube experience. With games such as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pikmin launching in the next four weeks, GameCube sales will just keep growing." Yes indeedy, for with first-party titles of this quality, and other games like Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness still waiting in the wings, it's hard to see how Nintendo's momentum can possibly slow down.
I think this is nintendos warning to europe that they will boycott it now and do what they did to the N64 and just leave europe high and dry still I will get one mind :)
